DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD Fusion Power Associates Distinguished Career Awards were established in 1987 to recognize individuals who have made distinguished lifelong career contributions to fusion development The 2009 Award is presented to Weston M. Stacey, Jr. In selecting Prof. Stacey, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his many years of dedication to advancing the prospects of fusion power. The Board especially notes his pioneering contributions to power-producing fusion reactor designs, his leadership of the INTOR effort that ultimately led to ITER, and his contributions to fusion-fission power systems.

  3. 2009 LEADERSHIP AWARD • Fusion Power Associates Leadership Awards were established in 1980 to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding leadership in accelerating the development of fusion power. • The 2009 Leadership Award is presented to • Gyung-Su Lee

  4. In selecting Dr. Lee, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes the outstanding leadership he has provided to the Korean fusion program. The Board especially recognizes the leadership he provided to the KSTAR project, to Korean participation in ITER and as chair of the International Fusion Research Council (IFRC).

  5. 2009 EXCELLENCE IN FUSION ENGINEERING AWARDS Fusion Power Associates Excellence in Fusion Engineering Awards, in memory of MIT Professor David J. Rose, were established in 1987 to recognize persons in the relatively early part of their careers who have shown both technical accomplishment and potential to become exceptionally influential leaders in the fusion field.

  6. The 2009 Excellence in Fusion Engineering Awards are presented to Dr. Darren Garnier, Columbia University,and to Dr. Jeff Latkowski, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

  7. In selecting Dr. Garnier, the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors recognizes the contributions and leadership he has provided to the design, fabrication and operation of the Levitated Dipole Experiment (LDX) and his contributions to the diagnostics and control systems for that experiment.

  8. In selecting Dr. Latkowski, the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors recognizes the contributions and leadership he has provided to the LIFE project, the NIF Final Safety Analysis and to LLNL contributions to the non-laser portions of the High Average Power Laser (HAPL) program.
