  2. Design Innovation • We have been able to utilise our advanced design skills & fabrication techniques to bring together practical and low cost solutions to any new or existing access requirements that our clients may require for their site needs. Our attitude towards design and innovation, helps to keep our clients in a leading position within their industry sector. • We are well placed to provide our clients with well trained site contract personnel who can fulfil most expectations asked upon them in a safe and timely manner. • By utilising the latest Autodesk BIM software packages it enable HL Engineering to offer the client a bespoke design service, inline with the latest cutting edge technology. • We have authored or access platform designs with “The National BIM Library – NBS” who have developed our access walkways, ladders and platforms to be fully delivered in both Autodesk Revit and in the software neutral Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format. IFC defines an extended set of consistent data representing building information for exchange and interoperability between AEC software applications. The IFC specification is developed and maintained by BuildingSMART International as its “Data Standard”.

  3. The Problem:- Site access platforms are generally the last thing sent to site at the end of the plant installation, for access to valves or equipment etc. They are often in-correctly priced by site engineers at budget stage and corners then get cut when site access is required, leading to poor quality and sub-standard access / egress. Platforms more than often are manufactured by fabricators who are not familiar with the current working at height regulations and the relevant standards including accepted site working practices. • Stair steps not to correct going and rise or even pitch causing tripping hazards; • Ladders not providing the correct fall protection including exit gates and cages; • Handrails too low or supports spaced too far apart thus not providing the required safe loadings; • Floor panels fitted incorrect, spanning the wrong direction with not enough supports; • Structural design calculations not carried out allowing supports and bracings to be fitted incorrect.

  4. The Answer:- What if we could standardise all fittings and nut / bolt connections, then design modular components that can connect to each other? • Stair steps would conform to regulation, no tripping hazards; • Ladders would have correct cages and gates allowing fitment anywhere; • Handrails always spaced correct and at the required height providing the required safe loadings; • Floor panels providing the necessary safe loadings with supports in the correct place; • Structural design calculations carried out on all configurations proving the design. Additional Benefits: - Access walkways can then be estimated more accurate based on 3 simple factors – The amount of m2 flooring area required; The floor to floor heights required; Amount of Ladders and stairs required. The Client could design easily on paper what products would be required to make up the access system then fill in a simple order form, then at a push of a button get an access platform delivered to site from stock. Be provided with full fitting instructions including all fixings to allow site installation by approved site labour.
