  2. Online Schools • The world of online schooling has grown exponentially larger in the past 5-6 years that it has been available. We are now able to attend kindergarten through college online as well. • A diploma earned from an accredited online school is the same as a diploma earned in traditional schooling. • Stanford University offers an online high school program.http://ohs.stanford.edu/ • Primavera online high school offers courses for grades 6-12.http://www.primavera-online-high-school.com/ • K12 is an online school for students of all ages. It caters to anyone from Kindergarten all the way to seniors in high school.http://www.k12.com/what-is-k12#.UjNwo2Rxu3M And there are hundreds more to choose from…

  3. Advantages and Disadvantages to Online schooling BENEFITS: • Students are able to work at their own pace. They have less chance of falling behind or becoming bored. • Students and parents are able to choose the school that has ideals they agree with. They are no longer forced to attend the school closest to them. • Most online schools are accessible 24 hours a day. This flexibility is extremely important to students with busy schedules. • Students are able to receive the help they need without feeling embarrassed or rushed. DRAWBACKS: • Online classes make it easier to procrastinate. • They require good time management skills which most kids have not developed yet. • They can, if the student is not careful, create a sense of isolation. • They require that the student be independent as there is no teacher there to constantly remind them of due dates or of requirements.

  4. Internet Access Within the last 15 years, the internet has undoubtedly experienced an incredible change. It has greatly impacted the experience that students have in the classroom, today. The internet has positively changed every students learning capabilities, while also allowing teachers to enhance their teaching methods. In the past •Using the internet took a lot more time, due to slow connection speeds •Teachers used video tapes to show educational videos to their students •There were not computers in classrooms to allow students a quicker way of searching for information Today •High Speed internet is all around us •Teachers are now only a click away from educational videos with the use of many popular sites (www.youtube.com,www.teachertube.cometc.) •Students, today, have complete access to the internet at any time. Whether it be through computers offered through school or even through their cell phones, computers or tablet, there is never a time that the internet is not readily available

Educational Budgets • Since the recession, the education budget has been cut down and funding is currently still declining • This problem is hindering school’s ability to deliver high-quality education, which has negative effects on the future workforce and their ability to compete in the global economy • Ideally, every student needs direct access to technology on a daily basis, unfortunately, with school budgets and technology resources, this often seems like a daunting task. • Saving money can be done by purchasing affordable netbooks and tablets rather than more expensive desktops or laptops. • Using free educational websites and apps, as well as an increasing number of websites with fees that offer free access to educators and students (e.g.,www.xtranormal.com andwww.wikispaces.com)

Online Grading Portals • Teachers have new resources available to grade their students more efficiently • TurnItIn.com is a site for online student submissions (http://turnitin.com/) • automatic plagiarism check • teachers can view submissions and provide feedback ALL electronically • students can submit files of work and can also participate in online discussions • teachers can assess students in different areas • PowerSchool/PowerTeacher is a student information system with many features (http://ps.vail.k12.az.us/) • accessible to teachers, students, and parents • attendance management • grading software • scheduling and enrollment tools
