  1. Impedance working group very brief status

  2. News • Impedance workshop • many interesting follow-ups (e.g. TU Darmstadt codes, GdfidL issue with ferrite, ceramic inserts, diffraction limit) • Detailed SPS longitudinal impedance model (presented at LIU-SPS) • Detailed PSB transverse impedance model (presented at LIU-PSB meeting) • Large impact of crab cavities on total HL-LHC transverse impedance predicted by DELPHI.

  3. Ongoing and planned measurements • BGV  done and presented • TOTEM  done and presented • Standard SPS tank for UA9 equipment (with the new CEA table)  done • UA9 goniometer  done • Vacuum instrumentation in SPS and LHC  done • TDI  ongoing this week • TCTP without ferrite  done and presented (with Andrea Mostacci) • SLAC collimator  done and presented • TCTP with ferrite  in July (with Andrea Mostacci) All the remaining items will be discussed at the next impedance meeting (postponed to accommodate for emergency TDI measurements).

  4. Pending requests • To Nicolas: potential new coating material for collimators (by Sergio Calatroni) • To Nicolas: impact of beam screen temperature on heating (by WP2) • To Elias: impact of new BPMs on triplet impedance (by WP2) • Help for design finalization of new LHCb VELO (by Massimiliano Ferro Luzzi, LHCb) • Status of ALICE beam pipe aperture change (new TREX working group) • Specifications for new RF fingers (TE-VSC) • Optimization of new collimator tapering (EN-MME) • Localization of power loss in the BGV chamber (BE-BI)

  5. Issues • TDI coating had to be abandoned due to incompatibility of NEG and hBN  Resistive wall heating will not reduce compared to before LS1 • Despite our request, TDI measurements were omitted in the planning  official request by ABP at LMC on 11th June  official recommendation by LMC on 11th June  TDI2 cannot be measured (already under bake out, very tight planning)  Huge effort by measurement team and collaborators to get ready when the TDI8 is available and limit impact on planning. Measurements started yesterday. Big thanks to all involved! • At the occasion of the ECR, check of LHC BSRT first mode and amplitude of the mode looked underestimated (due to wake windowing)  could lead to ~ 300 W with post LS1 parameters if resonance coincides with beam spectrum line  quick measurements with probe by BE-BI: mode not clear, to be followed up. • Factor 2 in tune shift obtained through DELPHI and Headtail?

  6. ECR approval • vacuum instrumentation in SPS and LHC : ok • New detector in SPS: was postponed since serious planning issue for both impedance and vacuum tests (not foreseen in planning). • BSRT: heating should reduce, and contribution to impedance model small : ok. • TCL6 and TOTEM: ok for installation, but warning that low gaps may limit LHC performance. • Many ECRs with no impact on impedance
