  4. How much food could we recycle? • Approximately 18,000 tonnes available • 6,000 tonnes currently being recycled (up 1000 tonnes since November 2014)

  5. 18,000 tonnes is: 13,500 Ford Focus cars – the car parking at Cribbs Causeway is for 7,000 cars so twice that amount

  6. Why food waste? • 23% of black bin is food • 50% recycling target by 2020 • Cost - AD (£38) MBT (£96) • Every 1,000 tonne  recycled saves £58,000

  9. Plastic bags can now be used to line the food waste caddy Feel free to continue using newspaper or compostable bags if you would rather

  12. Feed Me and Win • Joint project with West of England local authorities, lead by BaNES • Increase use of food recycling service • Reduce food waste in the black bin • Funding from Department of Communities and Local Government Recycling Reward Scheme - £400k

Feed Me and Win • Runs from 29 June 2015 until 16 March 2016 • Randomly selected households are awarded £50 voucher for putting out food bin (containing food waste) • One household per week in each participating authority • Daily awards for Christmas (12 days of Christmas) • Jackpot January – unclaimed awards are rolled over. • www.feedmeandwin.co.uk will be the main site for information, terms and conditions etc with links to each council’s website.

  14. Feed Me and Win • Joint publicity including radio, bus, bus stop, media advertising, posters, leaflets, displays, banners. • Local activity including roadshows, doorknocking in low participating areas, social media updates.
