2. The Previous Methods The University of Western Sydney has until recently disposed of assets that were redundant by: • Auction (Motor vehicles) • Demolition (for redundant buildings & refurbishments) • One of Sales events (for furniture & Bric n Brac) • Donations (to charitable organisations) • Landfill (last resort)

3. The Current Situation The University of Western Sydney has now utilised a vehicle (e bay) whereby we can dispose of assets in a sustainable manner whilst at the same time realising an untapped revenue stream. The initial idea was introduced by the Procurement Group and whilst there was initial resistance the benefits (both social and economic) far outweighed any perceived concerns. Items that have been sold via e bay range from ink cartridges to buildings.

4. Benefits for All Apart from the obvious monetary gains this practice of disposal clearly demonstrates that Sustainability is and should be an integral part of the business process within any organisation. One example of the practice is: Seven large chicken sheds were listed and sold via e bay the sale price ranged from $450.00 to $600.00 which at first glance appears quite low however these buildings were 30 years old fully depreciated and due for demolition at a cost of $10,000.00 each. Therefore the nett benefit is approx $10,450.00 per building plus the knowledge that these buildings will be recycled and not consigned to land fill. Sustainability can be cost efficient and achieved by all the only thing required is the will to pursue the goal.
