  1. Energy Management Services Lansing CSD Program Update November 14, 2011 Chris Santospirito Energy Management Coordinator

  2. Typical Energy Savings • EPA and DOE estimate energy savings at 30% of annual energy bills for the average school • Lansing CSD annual energy bills = $400,000+/- • Potential estimated annual savings = $120,000 • Portion allocated to low cost improvements = $60,000 TST Boces Energy Management Service

  3. NetZero Program • Energy related capital projects of $100,000 or less • Projects are completed in less than one year • Example: • Lansing CSD replaces exhaust fans = $100,000 • New York State aid paid in next year -$55,000 • NYSERDA incentives -$30,000 • Annual energy savings -$15,000 • Total cost to the District = Zero Dollars TST Boces Energy Management Service

  4. What Have We Accomplished • Established a benchmark for annual energy bills using Energy WatchDog • Activated the NYSEG Energy Profiler Online for the HS • Completed a free NYSERDA energy audit • Reviewed the 5-year Building Condition Survey for potential energy cost reduction opportunities • Applied and was approved for a $44,192 grant from NYSERDA for school bus idling reduction equipment • Replaced all fluorescent T-12 lamps on campus through the NYSEG Energy Efficiency program TST Boces Energy Management Service

  5. Future Program Considerations • Pursue financial incentives and rebates for energy projects • Implement the NetZero program and prioritize energy cost reduction opportunities • Monitor and analyze HS electric use from the Energy Profiler output online • Maintain the Energy WatchDog utility bill tracking system • Continue to search out “low hanging fruit” such as vending machine misers, preventative maintenance , water saving devices • Apply for EPA Energy Star rating for each school building TST Boces Energy Management Service
