Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization?

While most of the countries are acting towards liberating their policies and to open gates for globalization, people from the western countries have developed a disliking for it. The anti globalisation and anti capitalist movements have increased dramatically for the last few months. Actually, the corporate capitalism evolved in the western countries only and the corporate giants there have always been asking for reduction of international trade barriers. So where this protest against globalization did came from? Actually, the general public in these countries has realised the side effects of globalization and capitalism and they know that if policy makers don’t put a leash on the globalization then things could get worse in the following ways.

Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization? • While most of the countries are acting towards liberating their policies and to open gates for globalization, people from the western countries have developed a disliking for it. The anti globalisation and anti capitalist movements have increased dramatically for the last few months. Actually, the corporate capitalism evolved in the western countries only and the corporate giants there have always been asking for reduction of international trade barriers. So where this protest against globalization did came from? Actually, the general public in these countries has realised the side effects of globalization and capitalism and they know that if policy makers don’t put a leash on the globalization then things could get worse in the following ways.

The participants of such protestors say that multinational companies are only concerned about making profits and they care little about working conditions and safety of their employees. The participants of movement of anti globalization believe that it will provide the much needed cushion for workforce in western countries.

Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization? • Employment - This is obviously the most important point of concern for western workforce. Globalization has opened gates for corporate giants to freely hire from other countries. The work is being outsourced frequently for cost efficiency as countries like India, China, Bulgaria etc provide professionals at much lower costs. This has lead to an increase in unemployment in many western countries raising their concerns for future. It is believed that in the coming years many more jobs will be outsourced out of western countries if globalization is not put on a leash.

Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization? • Environmental Conservation - The protestors also believe that multinational companies are extracting natural resources without worrying about consequences and also harming environment with improper disposal of harmful chemicals. They think that capitalists are least worried about anything else than filling their pockets. However, there is no proper evidence to support this theory but west determined to convict globalization for environmental problems.

Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization? • Independence and Sovereignty - Another reason for ire against globalization in the west is the belief that powerful individuals and organizations can influence government and law makers. This is of course a very serious accusation with little evidence. Participants of anti globalization campaigns say that globalization poses a threat to independence of sovereignty of people of a country. They believe that companies are moving freely across borders and interfering with democracy to bend laws as they want.

  7. Why West Is Chanting Against Globalization? • Although the protestors are very sure of their beliefs, the whole anti-globalization movement has been highly criticised by people around the world. Actually, there is no proof or evidence to support the accusations of such a movement. Moreover, the effectiveness of the movement is also questioned by many economists. They say that it is better to support third world countries than to protest against globalization. The disorganisation of the movement has also lead to its ineffectiveness as the campaign has failed to find a mutual goal. The participants are often against each other due to difference in ideas.
