  1. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 He Came To Die Scriptures Fulfilled When Did Jesus Die? Christ Our Passover

  2. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 He Came To Die Had already offered Himself as King – Matt. 4:17 Mark 10:32-34 He was there to make the Pharisees and Chief Priests take action to kill Him

  3. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 Scriptures Fulfilled Jesus was there to fulfill Scripture Jesus had bound Himself to Scripture Zechariah 9:9 Disciples did not understand this at the time Later, the event would be very clear to them

  4. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? The traditional time of death Enters Jerusalem on Sunday, the ninth of Nissan Crucified on Friday, the fourteenth of Nissan Passover Sabbath on Saturday, the fifteenth of Nissan Resurrection on Sunday, the sixteenth of Nissan The strength of this is the length of the tradition and the Gospel writers – (Matt. 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; and John 19:31)

  5. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? Difficulty with this view Squaring Matthew 12:40 added to Luke 24:21 When piecing the last week together, we find two days unaccounted for in the Gospels One can be explained as the Sabbath Where is the other one? Some scholars move Palm Sunday forward to Monday But a better treatise is to move the crucifixion back to Thursday

  6. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? Computers show this arrangement to be April 6, A.D. 30 Thursday, 3:00 pm to dusk, is the first day Saturday night is the third night, fulfilling what was said This also gives credence to the soldiers of Matthew 28:13

  7. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? The days then go as follows Sunday – Jesus enters Jerusalem, looks around the Temple, and returns to Bethany. Monday – As Jesus returns to Jerusalem, He curses the fig tree and then returns to Bethany. Tuesday – On the way back to Jerusalem, the disciples find the fig tree withered and receive Jesus’ explanation, as well as the Olivet discourse (prophesy is the theme), and He returns to Bethany.

  8. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? The days then go as follows – contd. Wednesday – Jesus sends the disciples to prepare for the Passover, which is eaten that night without the Passover lamb, and later Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. Thursday – Jesus is tried (on what we would call Wednesday night but to them Thursday morning) and eventually crucified and then buried that evening by Joseph of Arimethia. Spices are bought for burial, but the Friday Passover Sabbath has begun.

  9. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 When Did Jesus Die? The days then go as follows – contd. Friday and Saturday – The body of Jesus lies in the tomb as both Sabbaths are observed. Jesus rises from the dead sometime between the coming darkness of Saturday and the dawn of Sunday morning.

  10. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 Christ our Passover All of that to say, “Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem as He did on Palm Sunday?” The crucifixion occurred on the 14th of Nissan. If that was a Thursday, we can count back to Palm Sunday and place it on the 10th of Nissan. This is important because it would have been on that day that each family would have chosen the Passover lamb in order to keep it for the required three days in their homes.

  11. Our Passover LambJohn 12:12-23 Conclusion Jesus would have been surrounded by the Passover lambs. Jesus would have been killed with those lambs on the fourth day. Application Is Jesus your Passover Lamb? Have you received Him as your Savior?
