  1. James “Whitey” BulgerBy Alex Dedousis The Brothers Bulger By Howie Carr

  2. Introduction • Born September 3, 1929-? • Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. • Famous for being Americas most wanted besides Osama Bin Laden. • If died it is unknown. • I chose this person because he is mysterious, no one knows a lot about him and he has been missing for over a decade.

  3. Childhood Whitey’s family grew up with little money. His dad worked as a railroad worker and so did his grandfather. However his father was disabled In a horrendous train accident. Until 1938 the children were working and the family drifted from apartment to apartment. Nicknamed Whitey by his white-blond hair, he was one of six children in his family. The seventh child had died just a few days after birth. This fact was known only to the immediate family. They were a Roman-Catholic, Irish-American family. He actually fulfilled a childhood fantasy at the inadequate age of ten years by running away from home to join the circus. Adolescence James “Whitey” Bulger was fist arrested at the age of thirteen. James “Whitey” Bulger was first arrested for Larceny. There after Whitey’s crimes escalated. He was arrested for assault and battery and armed robbery too! For James “Whitey” Bulger’s crimes he served five years In a juvenile detention center. After he was released he hung around the Third Street Café. At the age of eighteen on January 6, 1948 James “Whitey” Bulger’s charges were changed from Assault with intent to rape to assault and battery.

  4. Adulthood After Whitey’s release from juvenile detention he joined the Air Force. He served time in military jail for assault before he was arrested for going AWOL. He received an honorable discharge in 1952.He then led a life of crime in Boston. In a sling of bank robberies from Rhode Island to Indiana he was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. However he only served a inadequate nine stints in Atlanta, Alcatraz, and Leavenworth Prison. Whitey Returned to his life of crime. He became en enforcer for boss Donald Killeen. In 1972 Bulger entered the Winter Hill Gang after the death of Killeen. Whitey rose through the ranks of the Winter Hill Gang. By 1979 Jim “Whitey” Bulger was a powerful figure in organized crime. The reason James “Whitey” Bulger had such a large reign in organized crime was partially due to his secret FBI contact John “Zip” Connolly. James “Whitey” Bulger was an informant to John Connolly. As an informant, Connolly was protecting Whitey from investigation and from being found out. James Bulger however, was against the Boston Mafia. James “Whitey” Bulger used his informant status to make the FBI his personal hit men. He gave them information on his rivals to remove them from Boston organized crime. He gave the FBI his information on the Angiulo brothers.

  5. Adulthood(cont.) This allowed the FBI to get rid of The Angiulo brothers who led the Mafia. This left the Boston criminal world to James “Whitey” Bulger and his partner Stevie Flemmi. After a venture into the industry of horse racing became utterly devastating to the Winter Hill Gang, they tried to provide protection in the betting industry of a sport called Jai Alai( this sport is comparable to lacrosse). The act of betting on this sport is legal in some states. This was Whitey’s steadiest, supreme income source until Whitey became involved in Cocaine. All that Stevie Flemmi and James Bulger had to do was protect the Hartford Pronton (a Pronton is a place where a sport is played) from infiltration and shakedowns from the Mafia; this earned each of them $10,000 a week. Whitey by now had committed dozens of murders. On December 23, 1994 Whitey vanished for fear of indictment charges from the Government. Whitey has been sighted however he has never been apprehended. Today if James “Whitey” Bulger was still alive he would be about eighty years of age.

  6. Timeline December 3,1994- Whitey vanished for fear of indictment charges June 21,1956- sentenced to twenty five years in federal prison. 1948- at 19 years old joined the military Born September 3,1929 August 16,1952- Honorable discharge and return to life of crime. 1957- used in LSD experiments for sentence reduction Present Day- To this date James “Whitey” Bulger was never captured if alive he would be about eighty years old. 1943- Age 13 first criminal record for larceny

  7. Positive Contributions James “Whitey” Bulger was a horrific criminal. He did however make some positive contributions to society. James Bulger served in the military to fight for our country. He also participated in LSD experiments that showed us the horrific effects of LSD. Whitey also infiltrated the Boston FBI office and corrupted it. However this action led to higher security and more regulation in the FBI.

  8. Interesting Story On December 23,1994 James “Whitey” Bulger vanished. He knew indictments were coming on his illegal activity. Whitey could assume a false name and move to another country. He did however, have safe deposit boxes all over the United States that were filled with cash. He could live off these until the day he dies. Since December 23,1994 James “Whitey” Bulger has never been caught.

  9. Questions • How did you manage hiding and not being caught by the government? • If you could go back and not do everything you did, would you? • Did the LSD experiments you took part in twist your thoughts and way of thinking?
