  2. The Basics • LAN is a small scale computer network that works in small areas such as school Library’s and even your neighborhood. LAN’s are very small apposed to WAN’s or Wide Area Networks which cover much larger areas (hence the name “wide”)

  3. BackGround • In the 1960’s many colleges were in desperate need of computers. • They were in need of a way for the computers to connect at high speeds • At Cambridge University they devoloped a system called the “Cambridge Ring” in 1974
