  2. Fine Arts • ARTS 211 Art History 1 – add “or permission of instructor” to prerequisites to allow students who did not take ARTS 101 for General Education I to still be able to participate in study abroad. • Add honors sections of existing arts courses: • ARTS 101H Exploration of the Visual Arts Honors – Prerequisite: Student must be enrolled in the honors program. • ARTS 211H Art History I Honors – Prerequisite: Student must be enrolled in the honors program and have completed ARTS 101 with a grade of C or better • ARTS 212H Art History II Honors – Prerequisite: Student must be enrolled in the honors program and have completed ARTS 211 with a grade of C or better. • Add the following words to the course description of each: • In addition to all other class requirements, honors students will be required to spend an additional 15-20 hours on a field research assignment. This will entail: 1) Meeting with the instructor outside of class to establish an appropriate venue and research topic. 2) Preparing an itinerary. 3) Travelling to the art museum and spending the time necessary to gather all the information. 4) Writing a paper about the exhibition. 5) Preparing a PowerPoint presentation. 6) Presenting to the class.

  3. Natural Sciences • Change three chemistry course descriptions to be consistent with accreditation by ACS and provide clarifying language as previously approved for other chemistry classes: • CHEM 401 Principles of Physical Chemistry 1 • This course covers the laws of thermodynamics with emphasis on their application to chemical systems. Topics covered include: thermochemistry, equations of state, physical and chemical equilibrium and electrochemistry. The course consists of three hours of lecture and one three-hour laboratory per week. Prerequisites: completion of CHEM 321, MATH 112, PHYS 181H and PHYS 183H with a grade of C or better. Co-requisite: PHYS 181H and PHYS 183H if physics prerequisite is not met or consent of instructor.

  4. Natural Sciences Continued • CHEM 402: Principles of Physical Chemistry II • This course will cover molecular structure and bonding, interpretation of spectra, elementary quantum and statistical mechanics, the kinetic theory of gases, chemical kinetics and the theory of rate processes. The course consists of three hours of lecture and one three-hour laboratory per week. Prerequisites: completion of CHEM 401 with a grade of C or better and completion of PHYS 182H and 184H with a grade of C or better. Co-requisite: PHYS 182H and PHYS 184H if the prerequisite is not met or consent of instructor. Laboratory fee required.

  5. Natural Sciences Continued • CHEM 341/H Biochemistry I / Honors • This course is a study of the physical and chemical properties of biomolecules: nucleotides and nucleic acids, amino acids and proteins/enzymes, monosaccharides and carbohydrates, and lipids. Coenrollment in CHEM 343 is expected. Prerequisites: Completion of CHEM 212/H and CHEM 214/H with the grade of C or better; completion of CHEM 343/H with the grade of C or better if not taken concurrently with CHEM 341. • CHEM 343/H Biochemistry I Laboratory/ Honors • This three-hour per week laboratory course is the companion of CHEM 341/H. Experiments expose students to methods of isolation and characterization of biomolecules and recombinant DNA techniques. Literature searches are required for students enrolled in the honors section. Prerequisite: CHEM 212/H and CHEM 214/H with the grade of C or better. Corequisite: CHEM 341/H; completion of CHEM 341/H with the grade of C or better if not taken concurrently with CHEM 343/H. Laboratory fee required.
