  1. CATHIMarie Curie Initial Training NetworkCryogenics, Accelerators and Targets at HIE-ISOLDE Davide Lanaia(BE - OP)* WP5, ESR 7 Mid Term Review Meeting, 26 September 2012

  2. Outline Background; Activity at CERN; Project Status and Achievement; Experience in the project; Training; Conclusions.

  3. My Background 2007: Bachelor degree in telecommunication engineering from Catania University with thesis at INFN-LNS (IstitutoNazionale di FisicaNucleare – LaboratoriNazionali del Sud) on ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) Plasma Ion Source. 2010:Master degree in telecommunication engineering from Pisa University with thesis in collaboration with NURC (NATO Undersea Research Centre) on HF Radar and their use as a surveillance radar. From 2010 to November 2011: Stage at INFN-LNS on plasma heating, Bernstein’s wave propagation in a plasma source, dissociation of toxic molecular by use of a plasma chamber. From 2011 until now: Marie Currie fellow @ CERN in BE - OP (Beams Department - Operation) for the HIE – ISOLDE Project.

  4. My work @ CERN HEBT Layout; REX-LINAC Operation; Setting Converter Application; Cavities Phasing up & Calibration Application; Emittance Study; Stripping Foils Study;

  5. Activity @ CERN WP 5 All my work @ CERN is related to the WP which I belong: SC - LINAC COMMISSIONING

  6. Activity @ CERN REXEBIS ISOLDE 7-GAP RESONATORS @ 101.28 MHz 9-GAP RESONATOR @ 202.56 MHz ISOLDE beam Primarytarget High energydriver beam protons IH RFQ Rebuncher 60 keV 0.3 MeV/u 3.0 MeV/u 2.2 MeV/u 1.2 MeV/u REXTRAP Experiments MASS SEPARATOR Actual Layout of REX – ISOLDE Courtesy E.   7. Activity @ CERN 3 MeV/u 5.5 MeV/u 10 MeV/u 10 MeV/u

  8. Project Status and Achievement • D19: Already achieved, document published. • M17: Already achieved, trained by the other operators. • M18: On going (Emittance, Stripping Foil test, ToF Measurement). • TC7: Tests on my application were performed.

  9. Project Status and Achievement • “Status of the HIE-ISOLDE Super Conducting Linac Design” article for IPAC 12 • “HIE-ISOLDE SC Linac: Operational aspect and commissioning preparation” poster for IPAC12 • “Beam Diagnostic Boxes for HIE-ISOLDE” EDMS Document; • “Stripping Foil Data Analysis” EDMS Document; • “Notes on the HIE ISOLDE Layout and Naming Convention” EDMS Document;

  10. Experience in the project • HEBT Layout: • Weekly meeting

  11. Experience in the project • REX – LINAC Operation • Trained by my supervisor & the other operators • Help colleagues to performs measurement (i.e. Faraday cup test, Silicon Detector study and TOF System) • Have contacts with ISOLDE users • Use and understanding of the existing operational tool (Farday cups, Eq array, Mass Scan, etcetc)

  12. Experience in the project • Converter & Phasing up application • Application already up and under test in the ISOLDE Console Manager

  13. Experience in the project • Emittance & Stripping foil study • Characterize the properties of the actual beam

  14. Training & Secondment Technical Training: Java, JUAS School, Radioprotection course; Language Training: French Course @ CERN School: First International School on Laser Applications at Accelerators Secondment: INFN-LNL; TRIUMF Visited: INFN-LNL; TRIUMF; all CERN

  15. Conclusions A lot of work was done during this 10 months and more needs to be done Great working experience, huge possibility for our future. Thanks to the CATHI Project. Thanks for your attention.
