  1. Global Client Value October 2011 IBM Configurator for e-business (e-config) TrainingModule 4 – Entry Server (Power 770) with STG Software Products

  2. e-config Training – Module 4 This is the fourth module in a series of modules that are being developed to help our IBM and Business Partner sales teams learn about the basic workings of the IBM Configurator for e-business, also called e-config. This module is designed to help you better understand how to configure an entry Power 770 server and then clothe with STG software products.

  3. e-config Training – Global Settings ‘Main Selections’ • After launching e-config and starting an initial order, the Global Settings pop-up window will display. From here select the ‘Main Selections’ tab. Some selections are set by default, you can select and deselect as you prefer. Make sure to select ‘Express Seller’ products. • These are the main settings that you will set to help customize when building a POWER system, and will vary based off of the server or product

  4. e-config Training – Global Settings ‘Software Default Options’ • After launching e-config and starting an initial order, the Global Settings pop-up window will display. From here select the ‘Software Default Options’ tab. Some selections are set by default, you can select and deselect as you prefer. Select your preferences for p5/AIX and/or IBM i. • These are the Software offerings that you will have available to customize when building a POWER system, and will vary based off of the server or product

  5. e-config Training – Global Settings ‘Services’ • After launching e-config and starting an initial order, the Global Settings pop-up window will display. From here select the ‘Services’ tab. Some selections are set by default, you can select and deselect as you prefer. There is also a selection to ‘Remember these settings for new configurations’ • These are the Services that you will have available to customize when building a POWER system, and will vary based off of the server or product

  6. e-config Training – Product Selection • After setting your selections under Global Settings Wizard and selecting ok, you will now have the ability to choose a system or product to configure • Hardware, Software, Peripherals, Services, ISS Security • For this module I will select the Model 770(9117-MMB/MMC) under POWER7 Systems • You could launch back into Global Settings Wizard, see bottom left of screen • There is also a Wizard selection for ‘Total Configuration Services Options’, which allows you to set the contract terms

  7. e-config Training – Product Configuration • In this example I chose the POWER7 System Model 9117-MMC Power 770 Build to Order under the ‘IBM Edition Packages.’ • Under the Operating System the Primary OS I selected is ‘AIX V6.1 Ent Ed’ and I selected Additional OS ‘AIX V7.1 Std Ed.’ • By default 4983 under Processors was set to 1, due to the IBM Edition Packages selection and 5329 was set to 4 to activate all 4 cores.

  8. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘System’ • Next I moved to the ‘System’ tab • You can just select the tabs you would like to make selections and/or adjustments too • By default FC 5600, 32GB (4x8GB) Memory DIMMs was set to 2. • By default under System Options FC 1768, 1853, and 5585 were set to 1.

  9. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘Storage’ • Next I moved to the ‘Storage’ tab • You can just select the tabs you would like to make selections and/or adjustments too • By default under Hard Drives FC 1793, 177GB SFF-2 SSD w/eMLC (AIX/Linux) was set to 0. I changed this to 1. • By default under Media Drives FC 1107, USB 500GB Removable Disk Drive was set to 0. I changed this to 1. • By default under Additional Hardware FC 5662, Disk /Media Backplane was set to 1, no need to change for this entry configuration

  10. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘Adapters’ • Next I moved to the ‘Adapters’ tab • From here you can further refine to choose All, Graphics, SCSI, LAN, etc.

  11. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘Adapters’ • Continuing with the ‘Adapters’ tab. • Next choose ‘LAN’ then under Accessories, FC 7802 Ethernet Cable HMC to System Unit set to 1

  12. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘Power’ • Next I moved to the Power tab • Next I chose FC 6671 Power Cord, Drawer to IBM PDU, quantity 2 • Make sure to choose the appropriate power cords for your environment / solution • By default System AC Power Supply FC 5632 was set to 2

  13. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘Power’ • Next I moved to the Codes tab • Next I chose FC 4650, Rack Indicator – Not Factory Integrated • By default Primary OS - AIX FC 2146 was set to 1

  14. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘CSP/LPAR’ • Next I moved to the CSP/LPAR tab. • By default AIX Partition Specify FC 0265 was set to 1. • By default PowerVM Enterprise Edition FC 7995 was set to 1; I changed it to 4. • Must match CPU core count

  15. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘OS PCS’ • Next I moved to the OS PCS tab.Note: You can bypass this tab during initial configuration and go back after. • I selected 4 for FC 9444, Number of cores that will run AIX in the future or transferred from another server • If not adding a UPS, at this point choose ‘Configure’ to exit the Wizard.

  16. e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘OS PCS’ message e-config Training – Product Configuration ‘OS PCS’ • In this instance you receive a message indicating a recommendation about an option for this configuration. You are given the opportunity to adjust your configuration or continue. • For purposes of this demonstration, we will continue and select OK. 16

  17. e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen • This is the view from the main configuration screen. The next step is to make changes to ‘Software Products’, verifying defaults and adding/removing STG and Other Vendor Software products – see bottom left of screen capture

  18. e-config Training – Software Products ‘Product Categories’ • This is the initial view of the Software Products configuration Wizard • We will start on the ‘Product Categories’ tab • Select appropriate software from the ‘Product Categories’ selection list • For this module I have selected, some are defaults, the Operating System/Fast Path, Other System Offerings, Vendor Products & Systems Director • If you do not what to select for the software product you require, use the ‘Product Search’ feature on the top right hand side

  19. e-config Training – Software Products ‘Product Selections’ • This is the view of the Product Selections tab • Under ‘Product Category’ you can choose ‘All Selected Categories’ or drill down to a specific Category like ‘Operating System/Fast Path’, ‘Vendor Products’, ‘Other System Offerings’ or ‘Systems Director’ • The Product Category selection will change as the Products where selected on the previous ‘Product Categories’ tab • You can see some Products have been defaulted / pre-selected under the ‘Selected Products’ section, bottom of the screen shot

  20. e-config Training – Software Products ‘Product Selections’ • This is the view of the Product Selections tab • Here I selected the ‘Systems Director’ Product Category • I will add ‘5765-AEP IBM Systems Director AEM for Power Systems V4’ & ‘5765-SEP IBM Systems Director Standard Edition for Power Systems V6’, removing ‘5765-EXP IBM Systems Director Express Edition for Power Systems V6’ • I added Active Energy Manager (AEM) so I can better control power usage and trending • I added Systems Director Standard Edition for better management and control of the Server

  21. e-config Training – Software Products ‘Product Selections’ • This is the view of the Product Selections tab. • Here I selected the ‘Other System Offerings’ Product Category. • I did not select any other Offerings from the ‘Available Products’, but you can see what is available and what your customers solution may require. • Currently under the ‘Selected Products’ there are selections that were defaulted or already selected due to selections made during Hardware configuration. • When done adding / modifying Product Offerings, hit the ‘Configure’ button.

  22. e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen • I did not make any additions or changes to the ‘Implementation Service Products’ or any of the ‘Services’ selections – see Module 2 for Services training

  23. e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen • Next go to the ‘Messages’ tab and rectify any Fatal (Red X) messages, then review and make changes as necessary or required for the non-critical (Yellow !) messages. Lastly review all the informational ( Blue i) messages to better understand what may be required or are just informational

  24. e-config Training – Fatal Messages • This is the pop-up that occurred when I double-clicked on the Fatal message for the Hardware Management Console • Typically you will be provided with how to rectify the Fatal error

  25. e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen • Next you need to perform a final validation to complete the configuration. You can right-click on the Fatal message and choose ‘Perform Final Validation.’

  26. e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen • Now you can export the configuration by selecting the export menu button (see red box) or you can right-click on the 'CFR 1’ area in the top left of the screen shot. You can choose ‘Order Forward’, ‘Export Options’ or ‘Request a Services Proposal’ along with other options. Here you would want to choose ‘Request a Services Proposal’ in order to get pricing for the Services that where added into your configuration.
