  1. Democrats vs. Republicans Vs.

  2. Size of Government • Democrats: The government should include agencies that address all the needs of its citizens; LARGE • Republicans: The government should be limited in size so that citizens run their own lives; SMALL

  3. National Security • Democrats: The government should provide for national security, but money would be better spent in other areas. • Republicans: National Security should be the main concern of the government.

  4. Immigration Democrats: Support tighter border control but want illegal immigrants to eventually become legal through amnesty. Republicans: Support stricter immigration laws, tightening of the border, and do NOT support amnesty

  5. Energy • Democrats: Support research into cleaner energy supplies and away from oil. • Republicans: Continue to support oil as the primary energy supply.

  6. Health Care Democrats: Want to reform our present private health care system to include a public option in which the government provides health care to all. Republicans: Want to continue with the present private system.

  7. Taxes • Democrats: • Support raising taxes • Support a graduated tax system where lower incomes pay a lower rate and higher incomes a higher rate. • Republicans: • Support lowering taxes • Support a flat tax system where everyone pays the same rate regardless of income.

  8. Education • Democrats: Believe education is a main concern of government and should receive significant government funding. • Republicans: Tend to believe the education system falls secondary to other concerns life defense and the economy

  9. The Environment • Democrats: Laws should be strictly enforced to protect the environment and limit pollution • Republicans: The environment tends to take a back seat to the economy. Laws designed to protect the environment may hurt the economy.
