  3. Index 1: Student Achievement Provides an overview of student performance based on satisfactory achievement across all subjects for all students: • Most similar to previous system

Index 2: Student Progress Focuses on actual student growth independent of overall achievement levels for each race/ethnicity student group, students with disabilities, and English language learners: • Detailed information about the STAAR progress measure is online at • http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar/.

  5. Index 3: Closing Performance Gaps Emphasizes advanced academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students and the two lowest performing race/ethnicity student groups: • The STAAR weighted performance rate calculation must be modified for 2013 because STAAR Level III advanced performance cannot be included in the indicator until 2014.

  6. Index 4: Postsecondary Readiness Highlights the importance for students to receive a high school diploma that provides them with the foundation necessary for success in college, the workforce, job training programs, or the military; and the role of elementary and middle schools in preparing students for high school: • Only high schools were included this year

  7. System Safeguards • Reporting system will disaggregate performance by student group and subject area. • Performance rates are calculated from the assessment results used to calculate performance rates in Index 1. Writing Special Ed ELL

Distinction Designations • Four Step Framework: • Determine Campus Comparison Group of 40 (unique to each campus) • Identify Top 25% by Comparing Performance to the Group (each indicator) • Determine the Percent of Indicators in Top Quartile for the Campus • Identify Campuses that Meet or Exceed Distinction Targets

  11. Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA • Recognize outstanding academic achievement in reading/English language arts: 13 campuses

  12. Academic Achievement in Math • Recognize outstanding academic achievement in math: 13 campuses

  13. Top 25% Student Progress • Campuses in the top 25% (top quartile) of their campus comparison group on Index 2: Student Progress score are eligible for a distinction designation for student progress. 14 campuses
