Task SB-02-C2 Recent Progress and Key Outputs • Develop harmonized products, translation rules (legend) • Initiate collaboration for GEO portal connecting all major GLC websites (portals: NGCC, GOFC-GOLD LC) • NGCC released 30m water product for verification • GOFC-GOLD LC / Boston U. VHSR reference dataset • GLC reference data portal by GOFC-GOLD • Crowd sourcing: how to benefit from these initiatives (Geo-wiki, Oklahoma photo library, etc.)?

Task SB-02-C3 Recent Progress and Key Outputs • Benefit from sub-tasks C1, C2 - GLC maps and validation data portals - standardized procedures - validation tools • Workshops and symposiums, reports, special issues • Capacity development workshops and initiatives - China - GOFC-GOLD Regional networks (11) - REDD+ training material with World Bank - Boston/USGS workshops

Synergies with other Tasks Opportunities for collaboration • BI-01 Global Biodiversity Observation (GEO BON) Validation web portal can contribute to reach following Aichi targets: Strategic Goal A: Targets 1, 3, 4 Strategic Goal B: Targets 5, 7 Strategic Goal C: Targets 11 Strategic Goal D: Targets 15 Strategic Goal E: Targets 17, 18, 19 => Contribution to almost all targets

Challenges and Issues (evolution since 2012 Work Plan Symposium) • Several producers, users, applications • Web-portals: connect all major GLC websites to facilitate data sharing and accuracy assessment of GLC products - a GEO portal - data standards (format; validation: sampling design, response design; analysis; legend)

  9. Ideas for Accelerating Implementation of the GEO Work Plan • Redaction of proposal(s) to develop GEO data portal for GLC data to be further integrated in GEOSS data core • Workshops on land cover validation • New call among the land cover mapping community • GLC data user survey across the GEO Tasks

What really needs to be done?(Not completely different from task coordinators suggestions) • Kick-start and remotivate with stronger coordination (get SB ecosystems, Agriculture and Climate on board) • GEO Secr support technical document preparation. • Reconnect work plan tasks with strategic targets (Its not all global validation) • Help orgs find role and added value • Terminology • Communicate to user communities about developments

SB02-C2 Key 2014 Outputs(focusing on Session Theme) • Clear outline and timeline to develop GEO portal/validation interface for GLC products, using existing tools • Technical document on GLC validation procedures • Progress in establishing methodology to augment GLC validation data and approaches by regional and national data

SB02-C2 Cross-Task Activities • Workshop of SB-02 task participants and additional experts to further develop and draft: • GEO portal/validation interface for GLC products • GEO standardized method for GLC validation and technical document • approaches of augmenting existing global validation data by regional and national data
