  2. 1. Ways of Preserving the Nature • National Parks • Nature Reserves • Monuments of Nature

  3. National Parks There are no National Parks in the district of Elbe – Elster. But there are many other conservation areas which are held very beautiful and clean. For example the „Rosengarten“ in Saathain with the foundation walls of the old castle of Saathain.

  4. Another nice place in our district is the grove „Wäldchen“ in Bad Liebenwerda, it‘s a wonderful spa park.

  5. The „Little Spree Forest“ is near Falkenberg. It‘s a splendid place for boating and enjoying the green nature.

  6. Near Bad Liebenwerda is the Lower Lusatia Heather Nature Park. It covers an area of 490 km². Through the Nature Park flows the river „Schwarze Elster“.

  7. The conservation area „Little Meadows“ is in the Lower Lusatia Heather Nature Park near Bad Liebenwerda. The protective purpose exists in the conservation and development of the fresh and wet landscape with meadows.

  8. Nature Reserves The rock „Rothsteiner Felsen“ is a nature reserve since 1915. It‘s an amazing forestal area – each year you can watch theatre plays there.

  9. The biggest area with hill-shaped graves in Europe (1000 before Christ) is in the “Schweinert”. The “Schweinert” is a brilliant, green area which people use to enjoy biking or walking.

  10. The „Green House“ was an opencast mining field in former times but today it is a nature park. There live many rare animals, for example the kingfisher and a very seldom kind of swallows. This nature Park isn’t far away from Falkenberg.

  17. 3. Alternative Sources of Energy WIND - This is one of the oldest sources of energy – just think of sailing ships!

  18. biggest Wind Parks in Elbe – Elster: Sallgast (10,0 MW) Koßdorf (9,0 MW) Massen (8,3 MW) Röderland (7,5 MW) per year

  19. Solar Energy • is produced by sun • very environmentally friendly because it doesn't pollute the air like other kinds of energies (oil, gas, …) • advantage: the sun shines almost every day and so it‘s nearly unlimited available • disadvantage: the equipment is very expensive • in Germany a solar power station saves ca. 400 million € in one year

  20. 4. Green Companies • Where? Beyern - Falkenberg • power of 340 kilowatt • 120.000 liters of oil are saved every year • many users : social rooms, cattle stations for milk production, pigsties, offices of agricultural cooperative • Advantages: unused electricity can be sent in public mains • Heath loss is stable heating • emission-free, no pollution for people and the environment Biogas Plant
