  4. Filter Web Parts • Filter web parts can pull data from anywhere on the page and send to another web part to perform filtering • 9 filter web parts out of the box • Many other 3rd party web parts support connections from filter web parts

  5. Filter Web Parts • Nine out of the box filters: • Choice • Current user • UserProfile • Date • Page Field • Query String • SharePoint List • SQL Server Analysis Services • Text • BDC Filter web part was removed in 2010 • Filter Actions – a simple post back button to apply filters

Filter Web Parts & BI • Many of the other features of SharePoint can utilize Filter Web Parts • Excel Services & PowerPivot • Reporting Services • Business Connectivity Services • Performance Point • Charts & Maps • As we progress through the course we will use filter web parts every step of the way • We will create a user context focused reporting environment

Extensibility • Filter web parts are simply web parts • Web parts are easy to create • Filter web parts simply require an interface to be implemented that tells SharePoint it is a filter type web part • Developers can easily create more advanced filter web parts to further tailor your BI environment
