  3. Introduction • Hieroglyphics are formal writing system used by the ancient that combined logographic and alphabetic elements. Egyptians used cursive hieroglyphs for religious literature on papyrus and wood. • The people who did the actual writing were scribes

  4. AnthaniusKircher • Athanasius Kircher, a student of Coptic, developed the notion that this last stage of Egyptian could be related to the earlier Egyptian stages. Because he was not able to transliterate or translate hieroglyphic he could not prove this notion.
