  3. Agenda • Novel Read: 15 pages (end on page 46) • 25mins • Questions Prep (20mins) for the Book Club • Book Club (35-45mins) • How To Project (20mins) • Reminder: Directions Manual Due 11/8-11/9 • Presentations are next week!

  4. Discussion Questions • 1. (p. 25) Tim says there are “six sides” to the argument about the war. Which side would you choose and why? Use textual evidence to explain and support your opinion. • 2. (p. 22) Tim says something bad is going to happen…what do you predict? • 3. (p. 27) Describe how Tim feels about Sam and explain why. Do you agree with the father or Sam? • 4. How does the conflict between Sam and his father mirror the larger conflict in the novel? • 5. What role does religion play in the lives of the colonists (p. 29). Would you let religion sway you? Why/why not? • 6. What is happening in the relationship between Tim and Sam? Describe how it has changed. • 7. Come up with 2 questions to ask the class based on what we have read.

Safety Information/Tips on what to do if something goes wrong • 5. At least 3 text features (ex: glossary, bold words, bullets etc.) • 6. Check your presentation day!

  6. Reading Program: 11/7 • Librarians please pass out all reading materials! • Take out your reader’s response journals and reading logs. • 1. Fill out your reading log for today! • 2. Table of Contents: Forceful Four………….(p. depends on your progress) • (You can complete the activity (forceful four) using your guided reading book or your independent book) • IR (15mins)- 2 Conferences • GR(15mins)- 2 conferences • Activity (10mins) + Discussion (5mins)-Monitor Groups • REMINDER: How To Manuals due TOMORROW/FRIDAY

Do Now: 11/8-11/9 • Librarians pass out all reading materials! • (IR +GR books) • Directions manuals on your desk! • Please correctly write out at least one of your internet sources in MLA format. Big Goal • The goal for each reading group is to grow by two years in reading comprehension by the end of the school year! • The more you read the faster you will grow! • Captains: Guided Reading Log • Guided reading book drop off at end of class • Keep your group in check or consequences will follow

Reader’s Response Notebook • Table of Contents: Reading Skill Building: Background Knowledge………………(p. depends on progress) • Three fifteen minute rotations • IR 15mins • GR 15mins (either silent and all at own pace OR one reader in a whisper at a time) • Comprehension Activity (on GR book) 10mins/5mins discussion

  11. Diary #1 • Must include: • 1. Works Cited page: 2 websites Notes One other source (textbook/book/newspaper/interview 2. Two front pages written in blue/black ink OR 1.5 pages typed (printed out, 12pt font, double spaced, Times New Roman) 3. Written in the FIRST PERSON 4. At least three in-text citations (Cite all facts!) 5. Any extra creative things you want to add (letters, drawings, extra writing, dialect etc.)

  12. Research • 1. Research into at least two websites and collect facts for your diary • 2. Start writing your diary (Only type if you have access to a printer!) • 3. You can put your name/period at the top or at the bottom it is your choice. Remember you need to cite your facts in text AND on the works cited page!!!
