  2. simile • Simile –using like or as to compare 2 things • His hair is as bald as a babys’ backside.

  3. metaphor Metaphor-comparing 2 things without using like or as something is something else She is a dog when she is hungry.

  4. onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia-sound word When a lion is trying to protect it’s cub it roars at the predator.

  5. Hyperbole • Hyperbole-using exaggeration to make a point • I have told you a million times not to lie.

  6. Personification • Personification-giving human qualities to something not human • Trees were dancing with the wind.

  7. Idiom • Idiom-a well known expression that does not mean what it says • I sit on the couch like a bump on a log.

  8. Practice Problems • His head is as stinky as a skunks stench. • Her stories are a broken record. • Bang! Pow! Shazam! IT’S BATMAN! • Billy borrowed Bobby’s blanket for the baby. • The birds sang beautiful words while sitting in the tree. • My homework was a piece of cake. • You snore louder than a freight train.
