  2. Key Solutions Move away from the over-emphasis on the ownership aspect of the MPRDA SLPs written with implementation in mind (strategically) and/or replaced with Community Development Agreements (CDAs) Changes in Corporate Governance Structures (to two tiers which provides greater access to employees) ESOPs/Community Trusts should be compulsory schemes Paternalism towards communities needs to be replaced with partnerships – talk WITH people not AT people Efforts between Private and Public Sectors, Communities and Youth to be aligned under Strategic Programmes Support must be given to under-capacitated municipalities – IDP process, consultation, resources and skills “We can only achieve transformation through collaboration; alone we will not achieve it.”

  3. Key Solutions Beneficiation – - improved definitions - a holistic approach inclusive of all variables - consider a Beneficiation Act under Dti - place premium on export of raw material Define industry success indicators for effective Public Private Partnerships Ensure competent, independent mining regulator drives enforcement of legislation and vertical distribution of Royalties – “Mining Charter needs to be enforced rather than revised” At all levels across all aspects of transformation, put the right people in the right place to do the right job Avoid “programmes” approach – drive transformation as the WAY we do business and take accountability Take responsibility as individuals to be leaders “Transformation is about changing destiny.”
