Revolutionizing Software Development with Automatic Generation Systems

Dr. Chris Wagner discusses the transformative power of Automatic Generation Systems (AGS) in software development. By enabling the collection and processing of meta-knowledge about applications, AGS reduces reliance on costly consultants. This innovative approach generates comprehensive project components—such as database structures, code, documentation, and training materials—at the push of a button. AGS dramatically lowers development costs for familiar software classes and continually improves over time, paving the way for more efficient and effective software creation.

  1. Automatic Software Generation: Reducing the Cost of Development (ISE & PDMC) Dr. Chris Wagner AGS requires entry of meta knowledge concerning an application and its purpose. This is done by creating software that can acquire, hold, and process this kind of information. This screen shot of a test interaction shows the definition of a new project within a user account. The meta knowledge within one project is of many varieties: object types and instances, process types and instances, specific application builds for particular user groups, and layouts of user interfaces. As the user goes through many levels of explanation of what the current situation is and what the desired system should be, costs are moved from consultants to employees. Reports easily show progress. This application was GENERATED AUTOMATICALLY. A single button is pushed and many things are generated at once: database structure, code, documentation, training materials. NOT text. Can AGS build any system? Of course NOT. Can it dramatically reduce costs for the classes of software it knows? DEFINITELY! AND IT GETS BETTER OVER TIME!
