  5. The Money • Spending is important as much as earning • Money makes money • Taxes

  6. Your Family • Home • Make time for family • Hobby • Exercise • Vacation • Work • It’s a marathon not a sprint • Create goals

  7. OUT ON YOUR OWN • Don’t hesitate to call someone for help • At 2am if your brain has stopped working… • Call another physician • Call your residency

  8. You want leadership involvement • You can still do research • Past ACEP chapter presidents are current EmCare Doctors • You can still publish textbooks and articles • You can get involved at your hospital • There is someone in the organization that has done it before and can help you accomplish your career goals • It does not have to be EM

  9. WHAT IF? • What if I’m scheduled to work and I need off? • If you are a team player people will already owe you and should not be a problem… • Be flexible • Get to know your colleagues • Get credentialed at two sites if possible

  10. WHAT IF? • What if a make a medical mistake? • Call risk management hotline • What if my paycheck has a mistake? • Call payroll and they will walk you through it • What if I need to relocate? • EmCare has positions all over the country

  11. Remember what matters • Relationships • Health • Autonomy • Security • Service • Recreation
