  2. Beginnings… • Born in Boston, one of seventeen children. • Never received a formal education—left school at age 10. • Apprenticed in a print shop under his older brother, James.

  3. Left Boston for Philadelphia at 17, in hopes of opening his own print shop, and to get away from his brother.

  4. Franklin was accomplished in many different areas such as writing, science, philosophy, and politics.

  5. Published Poor Richard’s Alamanack from 1733-1758. The publication contained information, observations, and advice. • It was written under the pseudonym Richard Saunders (with contributions from his wife Bridget Saunders)
