Experience / Expertise • Polymer processing and characterization, suspensions, emulsions, foams. • Polymer nanocomposites- increased thermal conductivity. • Nanomaterials and their applications- nanoclays, nanofibers, nanotubes and nanoparticles. • DOE Project- Polymer recycling, using natural materials to make composites- wood plastic composites. • NETL/DOE Project- Using nanofluids in improving transport properties of drilling fluids for high pressure and high temperature drilling operations. • Applying fluid dynamics, rheology, processing techniques to fluid mixing and dispersion operations to reduce energy consumption- DOE sponsored project, pressure sensitive adhesives. • Center for Polymeric Materials and Process Research

Materials-Related Facilities and Other Assets • Polymer Processing Facilities- Twin-screw extruders, injection molding machine, internal mixer. • Mechanical Property Characterization- • Instron Testing Machine (environmental chamber, video extensiometer)- tensile, flexural, compression. • Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer, impact strength, hardness. • Rheometers- viscosity, viscoelasticity, dynamic properties. • Thermal Properties- • Differential Scanning Calorimeter, TGA. • Thermal Conductivity of solids (nanocomposites), fluids (nanofluids). • Other Properties- • Barrier Properties (mass transfer). • Morphology- • SEM, TEM with cryogenic ultramicrotome, optical microscope, digital imaging and image analysis. • COMSOL finite element analysis software
