  1. Room 20 News September 13, 2013 Mrs. Bonus, Mrs. Beaudet & Mrs. Sheehan I am happy to report that our first full week in 1st grade was a great success! We are working hard on the class and school rules, and are having a lot of fun getting to know each other throughout the day. Just to remind you, your child should bring their own snack each day. Also, please encourage your child to wear sneakers to school (especially on PE days). I am looking forward to meeting all of you at the Minoa Open House on September 24th at 6:30. Some other important dates: 10/14 Columbus Day-No School 10/16Hospital Land Field Trip 10/25 Staff Day-No School Special Schedule: Monday-Day 2 PE Tuesday-Day 3 Music Wednesday-Day 4 PE Thursday-Day 1 Art & Library Friday-Day 2 PE Reading/Writing: In the upcoming weeks, we will continue to work on reviewing sight words and letter/sound relationships. We have started our writing workshop, and are learning about choosing topics by thinking about big and small adventures from our own lives. The earliest focus in our writing will be on generating ideas and making sure that everyone knows what it feels like to be an author. Math This week, we’ve done a lot of counting. You can help your child practice counting sets of objects at home. They should have a strategy for keeping track to be sure they are counting accurately. Next week, we will be learning some new math games that will help us compare numbers. We have been exploring with our junk boxes. Ask your child what a junk box is! If you have any old keys laying around the house that you would like to donate to our classroom, we would really appreciate it! Social Studies: We will be learning about our school and neighborhood communities and the people who live and work in them. This week we started to make a list of our class rules. We ended up with 20! Over the next few days, we will be deciding how we can combine these rules into a list of only 3 rules. We are all working to earn 10 Braggin Dragons. Remind your child to BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE a PROBLEM SOLVER. Ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler!
