  6. Hong Kong is a city and a special administrative region of China in the eastern Pearl River Delta in southern China. It is surrounded by the South China Sea with the exception of the north, which is adjacent to the Chinese province of Guangdong. 7.4 million inhabitants live here on a territory with an area of 1,104 km2. It is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The city has the largest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world. About a quarter of the buildings are located on land reclaimed from the sea by filling with earth material. The first European to visit this place was the Portuguese voyager Jorge Álvares in 1513. Hong Kong was founded as a colony of the British Empire. From an agricultural and fishing area, it became one of the world's most important financial centers. After 99 years under British colonial rule, it was returned to Chinese administration in 1997. Hong Kong es una ciudad y una región administrativa especial de China en el este del delta del río Perla en el sur de China. Približne štvrtina zástavby stojí na územiach získaných z mora zasypaním zemným materiálom. Prvý Európan, ktorý toto miesto navštívil, bol portugalský moreplavec Jorge Álvares v roku 1513. Hongkong bol založený ako kolónia Britského impéria. Z poľnohospodárskej a rybárskej oblasti sa stal jedným z najvýznamnejších svetových finančných centier. Po 99 rokoch pod britskou koloniálnou vládou, bol vrátený pod čínsku správu v roku 1997.
