  7. Bellapais Abbey is the ruin of a monastery that was built in the 13th century on the outskirts of the village of Bellapais in North Cyprus. It lies about five kilometers from the city of Kyrenia. The main entrance to the abbey is through a fortified gate with a tower. The most preserved part of the complex is the church. The first inhabitants who are known to have settled in this place were the canons - custodians of the Holy Sepulchre, who fled Jerusalem after its fall in 1187. Aimery de Lusignan founded the monastery with the first buildings at the beginning of the 13th century. The main building, cloisters and refectory were built in the first half of the 14th century. The abbey gradually fell into disrepair. George Jeffery, the curator of the ancient monuments of Cyprus, repaired it in 1912. There is a museum in the abbey. The area is the venue of a music festival every year. La Abadía de Bellapais son las ruinas de un monasterio construido en el siglo XIII en las afueras del pueblo de Bellapais en el Norte de Chipre. Se encuentra a unos cinco kilómetros de la ciudad de Kyrenia. La entrada principal a la abadía se realiza a través de una puerta fortificada con una torre. La parte mejor conservada del complejo es la iglesia. Los primeros habitantes que se sabe que se establecieron en este lugar fueron los canónigos custodios del Santo Sepulcro, que huyeron de Jerusalén después de su caída en 1187. Aimery de Lusignan fundó el monasterio con los primeros edificios a principios del siglo XIII. El edificio principal, el claustro y el refectorio fueron construidos en la primera mitad del siglo XIV. La abadía poco a poco fue cayendo en mal estado. George Jeffery, el conservador de los monumentos antiguos de Chipre, lo reparó en 1912. Hay un museo en la abadía. Leží asi päť kilometrov od mesta Kyrenia. Hlavný vchod do opátstva je cez opevnenú bránu s vežou. Najzachovalejšou časťou komplexu je kostol. Prvými obyvateľmi, o ktorých je známe, že sa usadili na tomto mieste, boli kanonici - správcovia Svätého hrobu, ktorí utiekli z Jeruzalema po jeho páde v roku 1187. Aimery de Lusignan založil kláštor s prvými budovami začiatkom 13. storočia. Hlavná budova, kláštory a refektár boli postavené v prvej polovici 14. storočia. Opátstvo postupne chátralo a až George Jeffery, kurátor starovekých pamiatok Cypru, vykonal jeho opravu v roku 1912. V areáli opátstva je múzeum. Areál je každoročne miestom konania hudobného festivalu.
