  7. Waltham Chase Methodist Church An Intergenerational Church? By accident or design? A few mistakes and some successes!

  8. An Intergenerational church? Simply put YES we are. We have people in their 90’s thro to less than a year old. When the children and young people leave for their Sunday morning groups about half the congregation goes out. We celebrate together.

  9. By accident or design? Probably a bit of both! In the late 90’s the church decided to employ a youth worker. Some 16 yrs later I’m still there! The church had a lot of young married couples who were in their 30’s, so for a few years we had a baby boom. But there has been a desire over the last 15 or so years to have an ethos of including families in the life of the church.

  10. A few mistakes and some successes! Mistakes! • Family Worship. • Being too trendy. • Trying too hard. • Excluding older people. • Forgetting that the church is for the not yet Christians. Successes! • Breakfast Church. • Legacy. • Encouraging. • Food.

  14. PERMISSION TO TAKE RISKS • Is this legal? • Is this unifying? • Is this heretical? (The answer should be ‘no’!) • “The seeds of heresy may come from outside the church, but they take root in her garden. Heresy is not unbelief” Heresy by Alister McGrath • Is this missional? • “Mission is not primarily an activity of the church, but an attribute of God” David Bosch “Transforming Mission”
