  6. Mercury ['mɝkjəri]水星 It gets the name because it moves fastest. Roman: • The god of commerce, travel and thief. • Mercury (墨丘利) Greek: • The messenger of gods. • Hermes(赫耳墨斯)

  7. Venus ['vi:nəs]金星 It gets the name because it's the most bright one among all the stars. Roman: • The goddess of sexual love and physical beauty。 • Venus (维纳斯) Greek: • Aphrodite (阿佛洛狄特) • The goddess of love and beauty.

  8. Earth 地球 It is the only one whose name wasn't from Greek or Roman mythology. Roman: • The goddess of earth. • Tellus (忒勒斯) Greek: • The goddess of earth. • Gaia (该亚)

  9. Mars 火星 It gets the name because of its color. Roman: • The god of war. • Mars (玛尔斯) Greek: • The god of war. • Ares (阿瑞斯)

  10. Jupiter ['dʒu:pitə] 木星 The biggest planet in the solar system. Roman: • The ruler of gods and men. • Jupiter (朱庇特) Greek: • The guardian of gods and men. • Zeus (宙斯)

  11. Saturn ['sætən] 土星 The root of the word "Saturday" Roman: • The god ofagriculture. • Saturn (萨杜恩) Greek: • The god of Titans, creation and destruction of space and time • Cronus (克洛诺斯)

  12. Uranus ['juərənəs] 天王星 Roman: • No corresponding god of this planet. Greek: • The god of the universe. • Uranus (乌拉诺斯)

  13. Neptune ['neptju:n] 海王星 Roman: • The god of sea • Neptune (尼普顿) Greek: • The god of sea • Poseidon (波塞冬)

  14. Project • Find out what you can from books and the Internet. Think about which planet you would like to explore. Get prepare to present your research report to your class. • Your report should include: • which planet you have chosen and why • the basic characteristics of the planet, eg, the position and surface size • what has already been found out about the planet • what you hope to find out when you visit it
