  2. Please write a comparison essay for homework based on the following question: Architecture throughout history creates sacred spaces. Please discuss in detail how the plan and structure of these buildings reflect religious beliefs and practices. Try not to take too much longer than 30 minutes for homework. Bring it next time. Use the tips on the next slide to figure out how to structure your essay.

  3. TIPS FOR LONG ESSAY WRITING! • Thesis Statement: Have it in your head! You don’t have to write it-it comes from the question • Body Paragraphs: Most important part-topic sentences optional---but concrete details, analysis and explanation and good conclusion sentences that link back to the thesis in your head are necessary. • Conclusion: Not necessary-but great if you have time-to reaffirm your knowledge to your reader.

  4. TIPS FOR LONG ESSAY WRITING! Use for short essays too! DON’T BE A SLACKER!!!!! BE A SALCKER!!!!! • Start your writing with: • SPECIFICS: Concrete details for the image that are related to the question • ANALYZE: (And ACTIVATE) how and what the specific element is doing-USE VERBS!!!! • LINK: The analysis back to what the Question is actually asking you using…. • CONTEXT: -of the culture and society in that TIME…using- • KNOWLEDGE: of the MATRIX, VALUES and NORMS • ENSURE: you “activated” and “connected your specifics tot their… • RELEVANCE: Did you relate everything back to the question? (keep the thesis in your head in mind here)
