What is Big Local Trust? • National programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund • Programme Management: Community Development Foundation (CDF) • £200 Million Funding Pot • 50 schemes identified initially, based upon ‘Cold Spots’ • A further 100 – 150 schemes to follow, over 2/3 funding rounds • 4 in the East of England: • Ramsey, Huntingdonshire • Bedford, Bedfordshire • Hertsmere, Hertfordshire

  3. What’s in it for Us? • £1 Million over the next 10 years - GUARANTEED! • One lump sum or £100,000 per year for 10 years • Only for NW Ipswich (Whitton, Whitehouse and Castle Hill) • Residents involvement is key • Emphasis on legacy and sustainability

  6. Stage 1 – Publicity & Promotion • 1st Stage April – Sept 2011 • Aim: to raise awareness of BLT funding: • Events and workshops • Newsletters • Local media • Schools & Faith Groups • VCS organisations and partners • ‘Big Ideas’ Campaign • Recruitment of ‘Community Stars’

  7. Stage 2 – To Develop a Neighbourhood Community Plan (NCP) No Plan, No Money! Identify the priorities for NW Ipswich Consultation with the wider Community to agree NCP A further £30,ooo secured from funders to deliver Stage 2 Timescale – October 2011 – June 2012

Stage 2 – My role • Community Catalyst • I don’t hold the purse strings! • To tell residents about what we know already: • Data – Census, stats • Anecdotal evidence • Local intelligence • To provide support and guidance • To sign post to other services – organisational devt • To develop new skills and build local confidence • To inspire to think BIG!

Developing Our Stars • 23 local residents, Community Stars, recruited to form a Peoples Panel • Task: • To help set priorities for the area, working with other Key Stakeholders and Partners • To decide governance arrangements (funding limits, match funding requirements, frequency, etc) • To agree application process and timescales in advance • To be the ‘Decision Makers’ for the project

  16. Stage 3 – The Big Money Following approval of the NCP, to ‘go live’ with the application process To ‘commission’ projects where suitable applications are not forthcoming To reflect and review the process after the first year of operation Ultimately, to fulfil the aims of the NCP
