Art Déco (frz., Abkürzung von arts décoratifs, etwa: "verzierende Künste") ist eine Bewegung in der Designgeschichte von etwa 1920 bis 1940, die die Formgebung von Gegenständen in allen Lebensbereichen wie Architektur, Möbeln, Fahrzeugen, Kleidermode oder Gebrauchsartikeln umfasste. Ein Ursprung des Art Déco lag in der Gründung der Wiener Werkstätte durch die Secessionskünstler Josef Hoffmann und Koloman Moser und den Industriellen Fritz Wärndorfer im Jahre 1903. Das Zentrum des Art Déco war jedoch ohne Frage die Metropole Paris. „Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes“ daraus wurde „Art Déco“. Art Déco (france: Arts décoratifs, possibly: "decorating arts") is a movement in the design history from about 1920 to 1940 which enclosed the styling of objects in all areas of life like architecture, to pieces of furniture, vehicles, clothes fashion or consumer goods. An origin of the kind of Déco lay in the foundation of the Viennese workshop by Secessionskünstler Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser and the industrialist Fritz Wärndorfer in 1903. Nevertheless, the centre of the kind of Déco was the metropolis Paris without question. „Exposition international of the Arts Décoratifs et Industriels modern“ from it became "Art Déco".
