Toni Cade Bambara • Toni Cade Bambara was a social activist and a writer of short stories, a novel, plays, television scripts, and documentaries. She started writing when she was in kindergarten and had her first story published when she was a senior in college.

If there were no more presses, no more publishing houses, I’d still be writing. • She was equally devoted to social change and worked to improve the condition of African Americans.
