  6. Purpose • Practical Nursing (PN) Curriculum Framework • All MnSCU PN Programs Represented • Demonstrate excellence • Meet Minnesota Board of Nursing Standards • Meet the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) Standards • Educational Foundation for Future LPN’s

  7. Why This is Important • 1. MN Board of Nursing Rule Change • June 2011 • Candidacy for Accreditation by January 1, 2016 • 2. NLNAC • Requires PN Programs to be 40 credits or less • Requires PN Programs to meet National Standards for curriculum.

  8. Requirements of National Accrediting Agency • 1. Program Length < 40 credits • 16/23 PN Programs > 40 credits • 12/23 PN Programs > 50 credits • 2. Typical Accredited Program Length • 10 to 12 credits of General Education Credits • 28 to 30 credits of Practical Nursing Credits

Specifics of Project… • Curriculum framework is NOT mandated for programs to adopt • The general education courses are NOT mandated • Credit length for courses are NOT mandated • The curricular framework is not an all or none. • Pick and Choose • Working with the MSCF Union • 1. Committees were OK’d by Union • 2. Reimbursement was OK’d by Union • 3. Union has listened to our recorded meetings and like what we are doing.
