  1. Obedience Why Do You Obey?

  2. Judah Israel • Jehoshaphat • Jehoram • Athaliah • Ahaziah • Athaliah • Omri • Ahab • Jezebel • Ahaziah • Jehoram Daughter Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him. And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all who were before him.

  3. Jehu Sent To Destroy Ahab’s House 7 You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. 8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab all the males in Israel, both bond and free. 9 So I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. 10 The dogs shall eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her… (2 Kings 9).

  4. Jehu:Zealous To Obey God • Killed Jehoram (2 Kgs. 9:24-26) • Killed Ahaziah (2 Kgs. 9:27) • Killed Jezebel (2 Kgs. 9:33) • Had Sons of Jehoram Killed (2 Kgs. 10:6-7) • Slew All of Ahab’s House in Jezreel (2 Kgs. 10:11) • Slaughtered 42 nephews of Ahaziah -- Ahab’s great grand-children (2 Kgs. 10:12-14) • Killed all that remained of Ahab’s house in Samaria (2 Kgs. 10:17) • Killed all Baal prophets (2 Kgs. 10:25-28)

  5. Jehu:A Different View • Then the LORD said to Hosea, “Call him Jezreel, because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel” (Hosea 1:4). • Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit (2 Kgs. 10:31). • Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king's daughter” (2 Kgs. 9:34).

  6. Jehu’s Problem • Obeyed God Only When It Suited Jehu -- when he could see a benefit for himself. • By cleaving to Jeroboam’s sin (obviously against the Will of God) he showed that he acted not out of zeal for God, but served his own will and ambitions. • By disobeying one command of God, he proved he would have equally disobeyed any other command if it was contrary to his own will or interest. • Real Test: When God Commands Me To Do Something That I Don’t Want To Do! Or, That Doesn’t Suit Me (Matt. 19:22; Lk. 5:5).

  7. ObedienceThe Reason Matters • Starting a new work (Eph. 4:1-3). • “Flee fornication” (1 Cor. 6:18). • “Love your wives” (Eph. 5:25). • Not forsaking the assembly (Heb. 10:25). • Baptism (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38). • Acts of worship (Acts 2:42; 20:7; Eph. 5:19)
