  2. What is nonverbal communication? • Nonverbal communication (NVC) is the sending and receiving of information and influence through the immediate physical environment, appearance, and nonverbal behavior.

  3. Characteristics of NVC • Always “on” in social settings • Primarily controlled by right-brain activity • Often occurs automatically and outside of awareness • Consequently, NVC is cognitively efficient • Pervasive and adaptive
