  1. Rules and Procedures in Mrs. Haring’s Language arts class # 1 Have respectful fun!

  2. Entering the Classroom • If the door is closed then just wait in a single line to the right of the door, up against the lockers. You must be quiet and no messing around in the hall. No wandering the hall. • If the door is open then come right in, grab your grammar notebook, and sit down in your assigned seat to do bell work. • Grammar notebooks will be in crates in the front of the room, under the white board.

  3. The date, objective, and homework • The date and the objective will be on the white board, left side. • Homework is on the white board, right side. THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU SIT IN A SEAT IS WRITE YOUR HOMEWORK IN YOUR AGENDA!!!!! Write exactly what is on the board. Then start the grammar bell work. NO TALKING DURING THIS TIME, unless I address you.

  4. Room Set-up • The way you see the room set up is basically how it will be for the year. This allows all students to see the whiteboard and the smartboard. If you have trouble seeing any of the boards you may move to the rug or an open desk. • I will change the assigned seating chart every six weeks. If you have an issue with your seat please see me privately to discuss it. I will do my best to consider your concerns. *I like to get you up and moving in class, it is a small room, but I will do my best you aren’t just sitting in one desk for 88 minutes straight.

  5. Materials Needed • Composition notebook—cow notebook • 6 rolls of tape • Pens/pencils • Hand sharpener • Lined paper • Charged computer (paper and pencil if you don’t have it; if you need to charge plug in at any open plug near your desk or rug area)

  6. Bell Activity • Almost every day you will have a five minute grammar assignment on the whiteboard to complete. FIVE MINUTES….let’s keep it on time. No talking during this time. You do your best on your own and I will check it over with you after 5 minutes. • You must complete the table of contents each day. • You must keep up with the work and be neat. • I will check attendance during this time, hand back papers, address personal conversations with students.

  7. Tardy??? You better not be! • I will close my door as soon as the transition time is up. • If the door is closed, then you are late. You must have a note from the adult you were with in order to enter. • Tardies will result in lunch/team time detention. If it is habitual then you will see a principal and your parent/s will be called.

  8. Raise Your Hand: • If you need to go to the bathroom---only one at a time • Have a question • Need a tissue---on my desk, notify me if they are gone • Want to speak • Leave desk

  9. Coming to Attention • I will signal attention by saying, “1-2-3, hands free eyes on me”. I will stand in front of the whiteboard when I say this. You immediately drop everything in your hand, become silent, and look at me.

  10. Throw Away/Trashcan • At the end of class, you will throw away anything you don’t want in the recycling or in trashcans as you walk out the door.

  11. Student Work: • Heading is at the left side of the paper--- Your full name Block Date *Papers will be passed down the line towards the whiteboard *Must be neat. If I can’t read it then I can’t grade it. It will be a zero.

  12. Missing Work • If you do not have assigned homework all complete on time then you have until 8:30 a.m. the next day to hand it in for 50%. You must have it complete during class or the 50% rule will apply. If this is habitual then I will be calling home.

  13. End of Class Dismissal • Never, ever pack up before I dismiss class. I will tell you when class has ended and you can start packing up. • Do not leave the room unless I tell you to do so.

  14. Absences • The absent folder will be to the left of the whiteboard. If you are not here for a day or more it is your responsibility to get all your missing work the day you return. You have two days per each day you were absent to make up your work. If you are having trouble completing my work in two days please come see me.

  15. Tutoring • I will make myself available for help any time that is convenient for both of us. Never, ever hesitate to ask for help if you need it. That is my job, I do really care, and I am here for you!

  16. Intercom Announcements • Silence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Emergency rules • Always be completely silent!!!!! • Fire drill---take a left, go down stairs, take a right at the bottom of the stairs and follow the rest of 7th grade out to the sidewalk. Stay together in a single line. Line up with the class to the left at the end of the sidewalk. • Lockdown---get up from your desk and sit along the wall to the right of the smartboard and the cabinet. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER TALK!!!! • Bad weather---take a left out the door, go through the double doors, take the first left toward the workroom, get in tornado position in the small hall.

  18. Visitor Expectations • From time to time a principal, another teacher, a parent, special guest may come in the classroom. You are to welcome them---say hello, if you know them address them by name. Do not shout out to them. • You must be focused on your work, NO MESSING AROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Answer any question they have in a very professional manner.

  19. Addressing Student Needs: • If you need to see a counselor, principal or the nurse please raise your hand and I will write you a note.

These must be stored under your desk---AWAY from computers!!! • No food, unless I give it to you! • Gum is permitted, as long as you don’t blow bubbles, smack it or leave it around my room. 24. What to do if you finish class assignments-- • If you finish a test, project, or assignments early please read your independent book! • ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS HAVE AN INDEPENENT BOOK IN ALL YOUR CLASSES!!!!
