  2. Are you on track to graduate? • 47 total credits (You should have 29 credits right now) • 4 years of English • 4 years of Social Studies • 3 years of Science • 3 years of Math plus a STEM class. • 2 Art classes • PE 9, PE 10 and Health • Elective Credit

  3. What happens if I am unsure? • Meet with your counselor TODAY! • We will do a credit check in the next few weeks. • We will be mailing home a formal credit check at the end of Trimester 1. • You need to be in constant contact with your counselor. • YOU are ultimately responsible for making up credits and staying on top of your credit status.

  4. What should I be doing now? • College visits • Check the Kennedy website for colleges visiting the career center. • Check college deadlines • Narrowing your choices to 3-5 college choices. • Working on your college essay(s) • Requesting letters of recommendation

  5. How do I choose the best post secondary option for me? • What is the campus like? • Large or small school? • Does the college offer the program I want? • Live at home or on campus? • Do I meet the entrance requirements? • Is it a good fit? • Cost? • 2 year or 4 year, public or private? • What makes this school the BEST fit for me?

  6. So, what about after high school? • ACT www.actstudent.org • November 16th is the late deadline for the December 8th exam. • Fee waivers available for students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Obtain them in the counseling office • www.mncis.intocareers.org • 3 FREE ACT practice tests

  7. What are my deadlines? • For ALL schools: Community College, Technical Schools, 4 Year, Trade School • Pay attention to college application deadlines: i.e. U of MN (December 15th) • Set a goal to have all applications in by Thanksgiving Break. • All applications should be in by December 8th, especially with a December 15th deadline. • The counseling dept. needs AT LEAST 5 school days to process your application. • If you are applying to a school with reciprocity, the online application is available March 1st.

  8. How do I request a transcript? • $6.00 Fee for each application. • You can get a transcript request form from the counseling office, or, they are on the counseling website. • www.khs.bloomington.k12.mn.us

Happy New Year– 2013! • Financial Aid Night is January 10th at 7:00PM • Kennedy Counseling website has a wealth of info. about financial aid and scholarships. • www.khs.bloomington.k12.mn.us • FAFSA is based on your parent(s) taxes for the current fiscal year. • Financial Assistance is made up of: • Grants, college aid (loans), work study opportunities • FAFSA is an online application. • www.fafsa.gov

Myths about my senior year… • I can drop classes and my college won’t know. • Colleges ask about discipline and attendance of students. • Some schools require a mid-year report. • Once I am accepted, my grades and/or the courses I am taking do not matter. • We have to send a final transcript to all colleges • GPA matters

  11. How do I reduce my stress with this process? • Such an exciting time for you all! • Pay attention to deadlines. • Seek help when you need it. • Be proactive. • Don’t get caught up with where friends are with their plans.
