  1. SENIOR YEARFALL PRESENTATION For the CLASS OF 2017

High School Graduation Requirements 220 Credits • English 9, 10, 11, 12 • World History, U.S. History, Government/Economics • 3 Science Courses (1 Life, 1 Physical, 1 additional) • 3 Math Courses (including Algebra 1) • 2 Years of Physical Education • 1 Semester Health • 1 Fine Arts, Language Other than English, or CTE Course • 55 Credits of Electives (5 ½ classes) • 40 Hours of Community Service (Due April 28th)

  3. Community Service Hours • Must be turned into your counselor by April 28th • Must be for a non-profit organization! • Mowing your neighbors lawn does NOT count • Working for your aunt without getting paid does NOT count • Schools, libraries, churches community organizations

  4. Misc. College Information • Sign-up for college presentations on Family Connection • Western Oregon Univ 10/7 @ 12:30 • Vanguard Univ 10/11 @ 8:30 • Colorado Mesa 10/25 @ 8:00

  5. Playing Sports in College? • If you are planning on playing sports in college, meet with your counselor to discuss requirements. • Apply to the NCAA Eligibility Center www.eligibilitycenter.org/

  6. I plan on attending a 4 year college/university next year! • University of California (UC) • California State University (Cal States) • Private Colleges • Out of State Colleges

A-G RequirementsUC / CSU • A - History & Social Science – 2 years • B - English – 4 years • C - Math – 3 years (4 recommended) • D - Lab Science – 2 years (3 recommended) • E - Language other than English – 2 years (3 recommended) • F - Visual & Performing Arts – 1 year • G - College Prep Elective – 1 year

  8. UC System • 9 Campuses • Application available at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/ • Application opens Aug 1st • Filing period Nov 1st to Nov 30th • Personal Insight Questions • Request SAT/ACT scores be sent to one of the campuses and all will be able to access it

Cal State System • 23 Campuses • Application available at www.csumentor.edu • CSU Mentor is open now • Filing period Oct 1st to Nov 30th • Test scores must be sent directly to the CSU system (3594 for the SAT) send to one campus for the ACT (use the account manager for ACT) • IMPORTANT: CSU will take SAT scores from Oct and Nov dates, Dec test is too late.

Private Colleges and Out of State Schools • Each school will have their own requirements • Be sure to find out what the deadlines are and what is needed by each school that you wish to apply • Deadlines will vary as well • Many private schools have rolling admissions and will admit students as applications are received

  11. 4 Year Universities/Colleges • Will require an official transcript • Will require SAT/ACT • Last SAT date December 3rd (Nov. 5th) – UCs only • Last ACT date Dec. 10th (Nov. 6th) • Scores must be sent directly to college • Some schools will take a later date • Will require application by a specified date

Scholarships and Letters of Recommendation • Scholarships • Current list available in the Success Center, Family Connection, AND our TCHS website • Deadlines vary • Requirements vary • Letters of Recommendation • Brag Sheet – Family Connection • The more information you provide, the better your letter can be.

Financial Aid • FAFSA • Parents and students must request a FSA ID number beginning in September • Filing period opens October 1st • Must complete the FAFSA by March 2nd to be considered for grants (the sooner the better) • Workshop at TC on October 25th 5:30-7:30pm • www.fafsa.gov • Most colleges have specific steps you must take as well

  14. Get Your Cell Phones Out! • Text ‘College’ to 44044 • Will help walk you through the FAFSA! • Follow the prompts and answer the questions.

Community College • Must be 18 or have a diploma • May compete online application in the spring • MSJC will be on campus from time to time • There are many different options throughout the state and country • Each CC offers a variety of Certificate, Associates Degree, or Transfer options in a variety of subjects

  16. Military ASVAB Armed Services Vocational Aptitude BatteryTest Date is Nov 9th and Feb 21st. Sign Up now in Family Connection Meet with a recruiter.

Naviance: Family Connection • http://connection.naviance.com/temescal • Username: Student ID # • Password: MMDDYYYY (8-digit bday) Let’s Do It Together!!!! • Log on Naviance/ Family Connections • Go TCHS website- Click on Main Office/ Select Counseling/ Family Connection: Naviance • Use the information under the “COLLEGE” tab to: • Update Colleges you are interested in • Research college information • List colleges you are applying to. • Request transcripts • Request letters of recommendation • Complete Brag Sheet

  21. Adding the colleges • Click the “Add Colleges” button at the bottom of the page once you have created your list. This must be done or the college(s) won’t be added to the list.

  22. Check the “Request Transcripts” box if you want to inform counseling to send transcripts to this collegeCheck the “I have submitted my application” box if you have submitted your application.1. Scroll below the “Waiver” once again to see the name of the list on the “Colleges I am Applying To” page to see the new colleges you have placed on this list.
