  2. Why study Geography? • Knowledge: - More understanding of man-land relationship - Get relevant subject matter (vocabulary & theme/issues) in the Use of English - Relate to other subjects, e.g. Biology, Economics, etc

  3. Why study Geography? • Training of skills: • Map reading skills • Graphical skills • Comprehension & application skills - Logical and systematic thinking • Problem solving • Critical thinking

  4. Why study Geography? • Attitudes: • Appreciation of the nature • Awareness of the importance of man’s activities in changing our Earth • Awareness of the needs for environmental conservation

  5. What to study?The Compulsory Part Living with our physical environment (1) Opportunities and Risks –Is it rational to live in hazard-prone areas? (2) Managing Rivers and Coastal Environments:A continuing challenge

  6. The Compulsory Part • Facing changes in the human environment (3) Changing Industrial Location – How and why does it change over space and time? (4) Building a Sustainable City – Are environmental conservation and urban development mutually exclusive?

  7. The Compulsory Part Confronting global challenges (5) Combating Famine – Is technology a panacea for food shortage? (6) Disappearing Green Canopy – Who should pay for the massive deforestation in rainforest regions? (7) Global Warming – Is it fact or fiction?
