  2. Job Overview A Vet Tech’s day would involve aiding the Veterinarian in their tasks throughout the day. They may assist in responsibilities such as monitoring patients during surgery, preparing the animal for surgery, restraining the animal, or providing any other assistance the vet may require. They also can administer vaccinations, take x-rays etc.

  3. I Love Animals I chose this job as a secondary choice for being a vet. If for some reason being a vet didn’t pan out, I could still engage in the activities I love, like helping animals.

  4. Education Pathway Courses: High School: Math 11 Biology 11 Chemistry 11 English 12 1 grade 12 science University (2 years): Veterinary Technician National Exam Laboratory Mathamatics Animal Behavior Veterinarian Terminology Animal Nursing Immunology Pharmacology Etc. Cost: Tuition: $ 4,887.46

  5. Salary/Future Outlook Starting Wage: ~$14.00\hour ~$20,000 annually Top Salary: ~$20.00 per hour ~$30,000 annually Considering a vet is essentially a doctor for animals, and animals will always need vets, vet techs will always be in demand because vet’s will always need assistance.

  6. Working Conditions Working with animals would be a rewarding experience, however It could be physically and emotionally draining at times. Injuries would be high with working with animals and could result in kicks, bites, scratches, etc. The hours would be staggered, as a vet would need to be assisted at all hours of the day, all year round. The clothing that would be required to wear for a vet tech would be sensible shoes, closed toe and supportive. Scrubs would also be required to wear as working with sick animals would require clean, simple clothing that don’t catch a lot of debris.
