  1. WWII Timeline Project Project Question:What was the nature and impact of the Second World War?

  2. IMPORTANT TERMS: • Battle of the Bulge: The last German offensive of WWII, resulting in the retreat of German forces toward GermanyBattle of Britain (the Blitz): Significant German air attack against England, particularly the city of London, resulting in tens of thousands of British deaths. Battle of Stalingrad: Most significant battle in the Soviet Union, where German forces surrounded the city and bombarded the city. The Russians withstood the attack and eventually pushed the Germans back.Blitzkrieg: German style of attack meaning 'lightning war'. The quick attacks helped to overrun Poland, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France in a matter of months.

IMPORTANT TERMS: • D-Day: Allied invasion of France on June 6, 1944, led by American forces.Operation Barbarossa: German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941.Operation Gomorrah: 1943 Allied bombing run that included the German city of Hamburg and destroyed most of the people and killed tens of thousands of German citizens.Operation Meetinghouse: 1945 American bombing of Tokyo, culminating in the firebombing on March 9-10 that killed over 80,000 Japanese civilians.Operation Thunderclap: Allied bombing run over the German city of Dresden that killed over 60,000 civilians.

  4. IMPORTANT TERMS: • Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact: Non-aggression pact signed by the Soviet Union and Germany in 1939. It allowed for Hitler to invade western Poland and Stalin to take eastern Poland without the two sides fighting a war.V-E Day: May 9, 1945 - the Allied victory in EuropeV-J Day: September 2, 1945 - the American victory over JapanWannsee Conference: 1942 Nazi meeting that settled the "Jewish question" by making genocide official German policy.

  5. The Second World War was the deadliest in world history. Over 60 million people lost their lives in this conflict. For the first time in modern warfare, more civilians were killed than combatants. The effect of the war was far-reaching and still impacts the world today.For the next several weeks you will be researching the most important and impacting events of World War Two (1937-1945) and creating an interactive timeline that follows the war from beginning to end. The purpose of this project is to encourage you to examine an array of events that most people know about while also affording you the chance to dive into topics that are lesser known. 

  6. INSTRUCTIONS: • Research the following events that occurred during World War Two. There are 15 required topics. You are then to choose five more from the list of optional topics, or you can pick some that are not on the list with teacher approval. You are then to create an interactive timeline using Timetoast. You'll need to create an account in order to use this site. Remember to make a password that you'll remember when working on this project. 

  7. INSTRUCTIONS: • Each event must be accurately placed on the timeline and must have at least one paragraph of explanation that includes: • What happened • Why it happened • The effects/impact of the event • Each must also contain the source you used for that information and have a picture and/or video attached to it.*YOU CAN ONLY USE THE SOURCES PROVIDED YOU BELOW AND IN CLASS. *WIKIPEDIA CAN ONLY BE USED FOR PICTURES.
