This article discusses the main problems and sources of downtime in a facility over the last 6 years, including foil issues, impact repetition rate, radiations, and thermal variations. Lack of maintenance and external faults like thunderstorms lead to interventions. Reliability studies and preventive maintenance are essential for identifying vulnerabilities and planning timely interventions for critical components.

Availability for the last 6 years • Commissioning during first years. Availability goal is 95%.
Problems they have this year: • Foil problem: Flickering • High repetition rate of impact. • Radiations. • Thermal variations. • No frame. Attached only by the top. • Problems of vacuum in DTL. • External faults: Lots of thunder storms during the summer. • Intervention: • Operators can’t intervene anymore on equipment. • No piquet service. • Best effort. Often there is only 1 person.
Reliability studies: • Reliability Block Diagram in BlockSim application : Identify critical components; improve system performance; plan maintenance and spares; identify vulnerabilities • Preventive Maintenance: • Foil: Every 4-6 weeks. 2 to 6 hours needed to outgas and reconditionning. • Source: Every 4 weeks. 6 to 8 hours to exchange and setup.
Summary Mainly the same problems we have. No piquet. Best effort only (often 1 person). Lots of scheduled maintenance. Study of downtime. Preventive change of source, foils.
