2. Mission Statement/Beliefs • The responsibility of C.E. Hanna is to develop students intellectually, physically, socially, and personally. • Student learning is a shared responsibility among students, teachers, parents, administration, and community.

3. School Offices & Hours • Main office phone number 241-3896 • School/Cafeteria opens at 7:00 a.m. • Students dismissed to class at 7:22 a.m. • Instructional day begins & tardy bell rings at 7:30 a.m.

4. Continued… • Bus/Car dismissal for 6th grade at 2:55 p.m. • Buses depart at 3:05 p.m.

5. Absences: General Info. • Every student must bring a written excuse signed by his/her legal guardian within 3 days following an absence. THIS INCLUDES CHECK OUTS! Failure to present this documentation will result in the absence being marked unexcused.

6. Three Different Types of Absences • Excused absence- when the school system receives a documented doctor’s/legal excuse. • Undocumented excused absence- An absence in which the parent/legal guardian sends a signed note explaining the absence. A student may only have 8 undocumented excused absences per semester.

7. Unexcused Absence • when a written note is not received within 3 days following the absence • when the nature of the absence is not for legitimate reasons defined by law • if absence occurred for other than personal sickness, family sickness, or death in the family. • when a parent note is presented for more than 8 absences • Exceptional circumstances must be addressed by the principal/designee in a conference.

8. Tardiness • Teachers will require a pass from the office to admit students to class after 7:30 a.m. • In case of a tardy, parents should accompany students inside and sign them in. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT COME IN ALONE!

9. Continued… • The following actions will be taken due to tardies PER NINE WEEKS: *5 tardies: letter sent home *7 tardies: ½ day ISI *9 tardies: 1 day ISI

10. ISI Reminder • When in ISI, students are counted present, but absences from class due to tardies are unexcused and could impact unfavorably on academic progress.

11. Make Up Work • Students with excused absences may make up work. • Teachers are not required to reteach lessons, but students will be given a reasonable opportunity to learn material missed.

12. Continued… • When out for an extended period, parents should make arrangements to pick up work. • If an absence is unexcused, teachers may require students to make up work on a non-credit basis.

13. Check Ins/Outs • Check ins/outs and tardies count against a student’s attendance record. • Always bring a written excuse for check ins/outs.

14. Early Check Out • Students should not be checked out early every afternoon. • Students will be called to the office for check outs rather than parents going to the room. • STUDENTS WHO CHECK OUT BEFORE 11 A.M. WILL BE COUNTED ABSENT & SHOULD BRING A WRITTEN EXCUSE.

15. Continued… • Students who check out must follow these procedures: • Parents/Guardians must identify people allowed to check out students. • Students may not be signed out by friends or siblings unless they are listed and approved by a parent/guardian to do so.

16. Continued… • STUDENTS MAY NOT SIGN OUT ON THE BASIS OF NOTES OR PHONE CALLS FROM PARENTS OR OTHERS! • The person checking out the student must be prepared to show a picture ID with number. • No check outs after 2:40 p.m.

17. Attendance Recognition • IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE, A STUDENT MUST HAVE NO CHECK INS/OUTS, TARDIES, OR ABSENCES!

18. Early Warning Truancy Program • Any student with 7 or more unexcused absences in a school year will be referred to the attendance officer.

19. Trips • Parents are discouraged from taking students on trips on regular school days. • Some exceptions will be considered but must be approved PRIOR to the requested absence.

20. Accidents • In case of an accident, parents will be contacted. • The local school board nor the BOE is responsible for medical bills that result from accidents occurring during the school day or at school functions.

21. Bus/Car Transportation Procedures • If the primary form of transportation changes, a note must be sent to the teacher with the following information: • Name • Bus number the child will be riding • Name of student with whom he/she will be getting off the bus

22. Continued… -reason for needing a bus pass -emergency telephone number -medical conditions the bus driver needs to know

23. Continued… • Notes indicating a transportation change can be faxed by 2:00 p.m., but no telephone requests will be accepted!

24. Bus Discipline • No electronic devices • Drivers may assign seats • Be courteous • No violence • Remain seated • Keep hands, head, and objects inside bus

25. Continued… • Bus riding is a privilege that can be denied-classroom behavior is expected. • Fighting will result in automatic bus suspension.

26. Car Transportation: Arrival • Students should arrive no earlier than 7:00 a.m. • Parents should pull up to the mailbox in order for multiple cars to unload. • If parents need to accompany children inside, they should use the parking lot.

27. Car Transportation: Dismissal • Dismissal time 2:55-2:57 p.m. • Cards with students’ names should be placed on the dashboard to help make loading faster.

28. Child Nutrition: Lunch • $2.00/day • 10 day lunch/breakfast ticket-$30 • 10 day lunch ticket-$20 • Milk-$.25/day • Students may bring lunches, but they will not be allowed to heat them.

29. Continued… • No soft drinks • No outside lunches such as from a fast food restaurant • Menus sent home monthly • Charging lunch is not permitted • Can pay online (www.EZschoolpay.com)

30. Continued… • Money borrowed from office must be repaid the next day • Free & reduced lunch programs are available for those who qualify

31. Breakfast • Begins August 9th • Cost $1.00 • Served 7:00-7:30 • Lunch manager Mrs. Blackburn

32. Snack • Only plain water is allowed to drink. • Nutritious snacks (popcorn, pretzels, baked chips, crackers, etc.) • No carbonated drinks, juice, or snacks high in sugar or fat are allowed. • No snack will be heated.

33. Continued… • Crackers & water available daily for $.50 each. • Ice cream on Fridays $.75 • Ice cream monthly $3.00 • Ice cream yearly $27.00

34. Discipline Plan: Rules • Be orderly & punctual • Listen and respond • Monitor speech • Respect • Honor • Prepare for success • Follow dress code

35. Consequences • 1 mark = warning • 2 marks = silent lunch • 3 marks = parent contact/behavior contract • 4 marks = office visit

36. Conduct Grades • S+ = no marks • S = 1 mark • N = 2-3 marks • U = 4 marks or office referral

37. Progression of Consequences • 1st office referral: conference with student/parent contact • 2nd: ISI, corporal punishment, or PE suspension • 3rd: 0 day suspension (parent/teacher/principal conference & counselor referral)

38. Continued… • 4th: 3 days ISI • 5th: Out of school suspension • 6 or more: Out of school suspensions

39. Severe Clause • Results in immediate office referral • Examples: fighting, harassment, verbal threats, disrespect to school employees, or any other class II or III offenses listed in the OCS Code of Conduct

40. Corporal Punishment • See Oxford City Code of Conduct

41. ISI • In-school intervention • Counted present; can make up work • No PE • Eat in ISI room • Bathroom breaks supervised

42. Work Detention • With custodian during school hours • Clean up campus • Assigned according to offense (vandalism, writing on walls, desks, etc.)

43. Out of School Suspension • Class II or III offenses • Repeated classroom disruptions • See OCS Code of Conduct for explanation of offenses

44. Dress Code • Applies to grades 5-12 • Students should dress in such a manner as to not interrupt the learning process. • Areas affected include make up, hair styles, jewelry, & clothing choices.

45. Rules Pertaining to Dress Code: • Neatly dressed, clean, and well-groomed • Shoes worn at all times • No spiked heels • Shoes tied & fastened at all times • Shirts should have appropriate necklines and arm holes.

46. Continued… • No bare midriffs, open-backed tops, halters, or transparent garments • Tank tops/Spaghetti straps allowed only when worn with a sleeved cover shirt • No cut-off garments • Males cannot wear sleeveless shirts

Continued… • No clothing or paraphernalia related to or associated with gangs or cult affiliation • No controversial writings, drawings, or decals (firearms, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, obscene statements/illustrations, extremist groups, etc.) • No clothing worn backwards or in an unconventional manner

48. Continued… • Dresses/Skirts no shorter than 4 inches above middle of kneecap • Shorts can be no shorter than 17 inches in length along outside seam and no shorter than 4 inches from middle of kneecap

49. Continued… • No slacking; belts must be worn • No form fitting garments • No underwear/sweat pants/pajama pants can be worn as outerwear • No oversized pants and shirts • No sunglasses, hats, caps, bandannas, curlers, picks, or other head coverings

50. Continued… • No metal chains, spiked apparel, or accessories • No holes, rips, or tears above knee • No facial jewelry, visible tattoos, or ear stretchers • Shirts, t-shirts, athletic jerseys, blouses, etc. must be tucked in pants or skirts
