  2. Russia had the fastest growth rate of all of the Great Powers of Europe. • Industrial workers, worked 12 to 14 hours a day for low pay, in unhealthy, and unsafe conditions. • The workers had no avenue to seek change. Moving Towards REVOLUTION

  3. Rise of political parties • The Socialist Revolutionary Party was founded in 1901. • Reform movements evolve into formal, organized political parties. • Russian Social Democratic Workers’ Party, or Social Democrats was founded in 1898. • 1905: Constitutional Democratic Party is founded

  4. Bolsheviks Mensheviks • Russian word meaning “majority” • Led by Lenin • Russian word meaning “minority” • Several other groups formed this party The party Split in 1903
