Directions • Work with a partner. • Imagine that you came to class today with a big cast on your arm. You slipped on some ice yesterday and fell down. • Your partner will ask you a question. Answer the question with YES and a complete sentence. Use the simple past tense form of the verb you heard in the question. • After you answer the question, your partner will click to see if you answered with the correct past tense form. • Change roles at question 6 so that you both get practice answering and asking questions in the past tense.
Example #1 • Did you have a bad day yesterday? • Yes, I had a bad day yesterday.
#2 • Did you fall down? • Yes, I fell down.
#3 • Did you hurt yourself when you fell down? • Yes, I hurt myself when I fell down.
#4 • Did you break your arm? • Yes, I broke my arm.
#5 • Did you go to the emergency room? • Yes, I went to the emergency room.
Change roles for #6 (the other student asks the questions now). • Did you see a doctor? • Yes, I saw a doctor.
#7 • Did you sit in the waiting room for a long time? • Yes, I sat in the waiting room for a long time.

#9 • Did you pay a lot of money? • Yes, I paid a lot of money.
#10 • Did you come home exhausted? • Yes, I came home exhausted.
