GRADUATE SCHOOL • The Graduate School administers the graduate programs across the AU campus. • Every AU college and school offers graduate programs. • The first doctoral degree was awarded by AU in 1955. • Auburn offers more than 130 different majors offering masters and doctoral graduate degrees. • There are currently 3,689 graduate students at AU. • We plan to grow to 5,000 graduate students in the coming years.

  3. Role of Graduate School • Administrative center for graduate education and graduate students • Graduate Council (GSC represented) • Minimums, academic policies, retention, continuation, remediation plans, academic honesty, graduation, certification, awarding degrees

  4. EXAMPLE • Master of Arts degree (with thesis) in English • Graduate School requirements • 30 semester hours • 4 hours research and thesis (ENGL7990) • Final defense of thesis • No grade less than a C • Minimum 3.0 GPA • Must repeat D, F, and U grades

  5. EXAMPLE—cont. • Master of Arts degree (with thesis) in English • Department of English requirements • 3-4 hour written examination of department reading list • Reading knowledge of one foreign language • MLA Style Book • Specific courses on plan of study
